Objective: Some patients (10 % - 32 %) with a positive guaiac fecal occult blood test (gFOBT) do not undergo the recommended colonoscopy. The aim of this study was to compare video capsule endoscopy (VCE) and computed tomography colonography (CTC) in terms of participation rate and detection outcomes when offered to patients with a positive gFOBT who did not undergo the recommended colonoscopy.
Methods: An invitation letter offering CTC or VCE was sent to selected patients after randomization.
Background: Oesophago-gastroduodenoscopy is the standard method for the diagnosis of recurrent oesophago-gastric varices after endoscopic treatment and eradication. The aim of this study was to evaluate the PillCam Eso capsule endoscopy in this setting.
Methods: Prospective, multicentre study in which patients with history of oesophageal varices treated by band ligation underwent PillCam Eso capsule and oesophago-gastroduodenoscopy.
Background And Aims: The position of capsule endoscopy (CE) relative to push enteroscopy (PE) in the diagnostic algorithm of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding is unclear, as previous studies involved the use of both techniques in all patients. We therefore conducted a trial in which patients were randomized to undergo one or other exploration.
Methods: All consecutive patients referred for obscure gastrointestinal bleeding were randomized between CE and PE as the first-line exploration.
Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by oculocutaneous albinism and platelet dysfunction. A subset of patients also show ceroid deposition, which can result in pulmonary fibrosis or granulomatous colitis. Whether this colitis may be considered Crohn's disease is under debate.

The long-term administration of UDCA might indirectly favor colon carcinogenesis by increasing the fecal excretion of secondary bile acids or, in contrast, it might inhibit colon carcinogenesis, as demonstrated in animal models. In patients with PBC, we examined the effect of prolonged UDCA administration on the prevalence and recurrence of colorectal adenoma and on the proliferation of colon epithelial cells.
