Accurate assessment of coal mine methane (CMM) emissions is a prerequisite for defining baselines and assessing the effectiveness of mitigation measures. Such an endeavor is jeopardized, however, by large uncertainties in current CMM estimates. Here, we assimilated atmospheric methane column concentrations observed by the TROPOMI space borne instrument in a high-resolution regional inversion to estimate CMM emissions in Shanxi, a province representing 15% of the global coal production.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined 4580 fetuses over a nine-year period to explore the clinical spectrum of genital defects diagnosed before birth and identify factors predicting severe phenotypes at birth.
  • A total of 61 cases were analyzed, with a high prenatal diagnosis accuracy of 90.1%, mostly involving undervirilized boys (68.8%) and some virilized girls (11.5%).
  • Key findings indicated that early second trimester detection, intra-uterine growth restriction, and penile curvature were linked to more severe cases, highlighting the importance of prenatal imaging for early intervention.

Study Objectives: The behavioral and cognitive consequences of severe sleep deprivation are well understood. Surprisingly, relatively little is known about the neural correlates of mild and acute sleep restriction on tasks that require sustained vigilance for prolonged periods of time during the day.

Methods And Results: Event-related potential (ERP) paradigms can reveal insight into the neural correlates underlying visual processing and behavioral responding that is impaired with reduced alertness, as a consequence of sleep loss.
