[Cervical plexus block as an alternative anesthetic approach for type I thyroplasty: a case report].

Background: The role of type I thyroplasty (TIP) is well established as the treatment for glottal insufficiency due to vocal fold paralysis, but the ideal anesthetic management for this procedure is still largely debated. We present the case of a novel anesthetic approach for TIP using combined intermediate and superficial Cervical Plexus Block (CPB) and intermittent mild sedation analgesia.

Case Report: A 51-year-old presenting with left vocal fold paralysis and obstructive sleep apnea was scheduled for TIP.

Magnesium and Ketamine Reduce Early Morphine Consumption After Open Bariatric Surgery: a Prospective Randomized Double-Blind Study.

Backgrounds: Optimal pain management in bariatric patients is crucial for early recovery. This study aims to evaluate the effects of magnesium and ketamine combination on morphine consumption after open bariatric surgery (primary outcome), as well as on postoperative pain scores and occurrence of side effects.

Method: A total of 60 patients undergoing elective open gastric bypass were randomized into 3 groups.

Is there a role for the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio in chronic lymphocytic leukemia?

Aim: The rationale for platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is that both the platelet and lymphocyte counts are affected by the CLL pathogenesis and could influence treatment decision-making.

Methods: Demographic and clinical data of CLL patients diagnosed at our institution between 1989 and 2013 were collected. Cox regression models were used to evaluate the role of PLR in the duration of watchful waiting, postdiagnosis survival and postchemotherapy survival.

Watch and Wait in Lebanese Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Patients: How Relevant is it?

Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most frequent form of leukemia in Europe and North America, and it mainly affects older individuals. Many approaches are implemented in the management of CLL from a watch and wait (WandW) strategy to chemotherapeutic regimens. We here reviewed our clinical practice for the relevance of the W and W strategy in Lebanese CLL patients.
