The study was designed to elucidate the wave structure of heart rhythm variability (HRV) for the assessment of vegetative regulation of pacemaker activity of the sinoatrial node in 362 patients with coronary heart disease. The results were compared with the data of routine cardiologic examination. Sinus node dysfunction and weakness were shown to be accompanied by differential autonomous dysregulations that may be used as additional symptoms for the diagnosis of arrhythmias.

Ultrasound was used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia. Suppression of automatic activity of pacemaker cells, a trend to reduction of AV junction transmittancy and prolongation of its refractory period in response to specially programmed ultrasound may contribute to elimination of tachyarrhythmia paroxysms in some patients. Ultrasound therapy should be used with caution in suspicion of sinus insufficiency and AV junction failure.

Programmed computer transesophageal pacing with pharmacological heart denervation by A. Jose and D. Collinson, mathematical analysis of cardiac rhythm according to spectral and statistical methods were used in the study of extra-abdominal (cardial and vegetative) manifestations of dumping syndrome (DS)--one of severe complications of ulcer surgery.

Study of the effect of a tricyclic antidepressant amitriptyline on an isolated papillary muscle of the rat left ventricle showed a decrease of the contractility due to depression of the potential of action and the slow calcium channels, as well as decreased rate and prolongation of contraction caused by impairment of calcium reabsorption from the sarcoplasma. Injection of dobutrex after amitriptyline has a positive inotropic effect by completely removing the disorders in the time parameters of contraction.

The authors review the results obtained in the treatment of some occupational diseases using physical factors. In osteoarthritis patients exposed to fluorine compounds good results were achieved at employment of decimeter-wave therapy combined with mud applications or sulfurated hydrogen baths. Patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis benefited from combination of EHF therapy with alternating magnetic field.

The paper presents the results of electrophysiological studies of the function of the sinus node, sinoatrial and atrioventricular conduction in 62 patients with acute clofelin poisoning and of drug correction of the said disorders. Atropine, asthmopent, dobutrex, and butyroxan were used. Toxicogenic depression of the sinus node and conduction disorders in the sinoatrial zone and atrioventricular junction were detected, with blocking of the entrance and exit or isolated blocking of the exit forming in the sinoatrial zone in some patients.

Using diagnostic transesophageal electrical cardiostimulation, sinus node function, sinoatrial and atrioventricular conductivity have been studied in 30 patients with acute clophelin poisoning. The results of pharmacological tests with atropine and alupent are presented. Control examinations have been performed on discharge.

A total of 105 patients with suspected sick sinus syndrome were examined. All of them underwent transesophageal pacing and endoscopical investigation. A relationship is shown between lesions of the gastrointestinal tract and emergence of the sinus vagal depression leading to various disturbances of cardiac rhythm.

Diagnostic computed transesophageal pacing was used to examine 45 patients with epileptic seizures of different genesis. Clinically, they had no signs of cardiac rhythm disturbances. 28 patients with heart arrhythmias and 30 practically healthy subjects served as control groups.

Changes of mechanical activity and coronary blood flow induced by haphazard uncorrelated sequence of stimuli, were studied in the dog heart. The total coronary blood flow did not differ from one during determined regimen of the same mean frequency. Whereas relative contribution of systolic coronary flow increased and that of diastolic one decreased.

Twenty-six patients who suffered myocardial infarction associated with FC III angina pectoris were examined for the effect of physical training on the health status. 25 patients made up the control group. Physical training lasted II months and included remedial exercise, bicycle ergometry training, and graded walking.

Mechanic activity of the heart was examined in 310 patients of different age groups with ventricular premature heart beat. Tetrapolar impedance rheocardiography was used to study postextrasystolic potentiation and mechanic restitution. It is shown that mechanic restitution is a sensitive indicator of heart failure.

Intracardiac electrophysiologic studies of the sinus node and conductive system of the heart were carried out in 51 patients with ventricular allorhythmias. In half of the cases, ventricular allorhythmias occurred in patients with impaired sinus node operation and abnormal atrioventricular impulse conduction. It is suggested that anti-arrhythmic drugs associated with adverse chrono- and dromotropic effects should be used with caution.
