Surgical Resection of Bilateral Coalition of the Third and Fourth Metatarsals: A Case Report.

An intermetatarsal coalition is an uncommon pathologic entity, previously reported in published studies as being primarily unilateral, most commonly between the first and second metatarsals and less so between the third and fourth metatarsals. We report an unusual case of a bilateral coalition of the third and fourth metatarsals in a 43-year-old male who presented with nonspecific dorsolateral foot pain. Conservative therapy initially failed, and resolution of pain was noted bilaterally after coalition resection.

Jellyfish stings have become more prevalent on account of larger commercial presence along coastal waterways. Stings are referred to as envenomations, due to the process of a neurotoxic venom being injected into the victim at the site of the sting. These events are usually mild, and for the most part, confined to local hypersensitivity reactions at the site of the injury.

Strength analysis of intraosseous wire fixation for avulsion fractures of the fifth metatarsal base.

The objective of this study was to gather pilot data of the pullout strength of intraosseous wire for fixation of fifth metatarsal avulsion fractures and to compare intraosseous wire fixation with tension-band wiring. Osteotomies consistent with fifth metatarsal avulsion fractures were created in 5 matched pairs of cadaver limbs. One limb of each pair underwent fixation with intraosseous wiring and the other with tension band wiring.
