Iliotibial band release as an adjunct to the surgical management of patellar stress fracture in the athlete: a case report and review of the literature.

Stress fracture of the patella is rare. In this report, a case of patellar stress fracture occurring in an amateur athlete is presented, and an operative adjunct to the surgical management of this condition is proposed.A review of the English literature identified 21 previous cases of stress fracture of the patella, the majority in young athletes.

The role of RuvA octamerization for RuvAB function in vitro and in vivo.

RuvA plays an essential role in branch migration of the Holliday junction by RuvAB as part of the RuvABC pathway for processing Holliday junctions in Escherichia coli. Two types of RuvA-Holliday junction complexes have been characterized: 1) complex I containing a single RuvA tetramer and 2) complex II in which the junction is sandwiched between two RuvA tetramers. The functional differences between the two forms are still not clear.

The glideosome: a molecular machine powering motility and host-cell invasion by Apicomplexa.

The apicomplexans are obligate intracellular protozoan parasites that rely on gliding motility for their migration across biological barriers and for host-cell invasion and egress. This unusual form of substrate-dependent motility is powered by the "glideosome", a macromolecular complex consisting of adhesive proteins that are released apically and translocated to the posterior pole of the parasite by the action of an actomyosin system anchored in the inner membrane complex of the parasite. Recent studies have revealed new insights into the composition and biogenesis of Toxoplasma gondii myosin-A motor complex and have identified an exciting set of small molecules that can interfere with different aspects of glideosome function.
