Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidenced-based intervention designed to help clients explore and resolve ambivalence around substance use. MI combines a humanistic tradition with behavioral components to facilitate client decisions concerning behavior change. As such, there is marked interest in the relationship between the two active ingredients of MI - the relational, or person-centered, components and the technical, or directional, behavioral components - on client in-session language.

Mindfulness-based training (MBT) and transcranial electrical stimulation (TES) methods such as direct current stimulation (tDCS) have demonstrated promise for the augmentation of cognitive abilities. The current study investigated the potential compatibility of concurrent "electrical" MBT and tDCS (or eMBT) by testing its combined effects on behavioral and neurophysiological indices of working memory (WM) and attentional resource allocation. Thirty-four healthy participants were randomly assigned to either a MBT task with tDCS group (eMBT) or an active control training task with sham tDCS (Control) group.

The question of whether different measures of the construct are comparable across studies and patient subgroups has not been examined. This study examined the alcohol dependence construct across four diverse large-scale treatment samples using integrative data analysis (IDA).

Hartzler and colleagues (2011) showed in the COMBINE data set that alcohol abstinence self-efficacy is a potentially important statistical mediator of the relationship between the alliance and client outcomes.
Methods: The purpose of this study was to replicate this finding in the Project MATCH data set.
