Background: Primary cardiac diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (CDLBCL) is an exceptionally rare entity, estimated to represent less than 1% of all primary cardiac tumours. In this case report, we emphasize the diagnostic importance of multimodality imaging and the need for additional procedures, such as tissue biopsy, in a case with a primary cardiac lymphoma presenting with cardiac tamponade.
Case Summary: An 80-year-old male was admitted to the emergency department with a life-threatening tamponade demanding immediate sternotomy.
Aim: To investigate whether an image acquisition stabilizer (IAS) mounted on the sidestream dark field camera (SDF) during gastrointestinal surgery improves image stability and acquisition.
Methods: Serosal SDF imaging was compared with SDF imaging combined with an IAS (SDF + IAS) during gastrointestinal surgery. Stability was assessed as the image drift in pixels and the time to obtain stable images.
Background/aims: Anastomotic leakage after low anterior resection may be the result of poor vascular supply from the proximal anastomotic loop. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between colonic microvessel density and anastomotic breakdown.
Methodology: Between 2006 and 2009, a consecutive series of 81 patients underwent double-stapled low anterior resection followed by a colorectal anastomosis.
Glomus tumors usually occur in the acral soft tissue and rarely in visceral locations, such as the stomach, intestines, mediastinum, lung, pancreas, bladder, and vagina. The authors present a 74-year-old woman with an exceptionally large glomus tumor of the mesentrium with malignant features. Previously reported cases of intraabdominal glomus tumor in the abdominal cavity exhibited benign behavior and few cases with metastatic disease.
