Background: Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) was introduced in the European Union in 2015 as a novel prodrug of tenofovir showing similar efficacy in clinical trials and a more favorable safety profile than tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). The German TAFNES cohort study (2016-2019) was conducted to generate real-world evidence.

Methods: Treatment-naïve (TN) and treatment-experienced (TE) people with HIV (PWH) receiving elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/TAF (E/C/F/TAF), rilpivirine/F/TAF (R/F/TAF) or F/TAF + 3rd agent were included.

Objectives: Seroprevalence studies of SARS-CoV-2 have shown that there is a high number of undiagnosed missing cases. Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in people living with HIV (PLWH) is lacking. Therefore, we conducted a prospective cross-sectional study to estimate the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 among PLWH without known diagnosis of COVID-19 in the south-west of Germany.

Glecaprevir/pibrentasvir is a pangenotypic direct-acting antiviral regimen approved for treating chronic hepatitis C virus. Real-world use of protease-inhibitor-containing regimens requires further evaluation in patients with cirrhosis. We evaluated the real-world safety and effectiveness of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir in patients with cirrhosis from the German Hepatitis C-Registry who initiated treatment between 2 August 2017 and 30 June 2019.

Breastfeeding (BF) in mothers living with HIV (MLWH) is still discussed controversially in resource-rich settings. In Germany, where formula feeding is recommended for MLWH single BF cases have been reported, but no systematic data collection and analysis are available so far. This study, titled HELENE, aims to fill this data gap.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to assess a tailored treatment strategy for patients with HIV-related Hodgkin lymphoma (HIV-HL) since standard therapies remain unclear despite improved outcomes due to antiretroviral therapy.
  • *Patients with different stages of HIV-HL were treated with various chemotherapy regimens, including ABVD and BEACOPP, along with radiation therapy for some groups, leading to high complete remission rates across stages.
  • *The findings showed a 2-year overall survival rate of 90.7% and suggested that the treatment effectiveness in HIV-HL patients can be comparable to that of HIV-negative patients with the same type of lymphoma.*

Objective: To describe the clinical course and risk factors of death in highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-treated patients with progressive multifocal leukencephalopathy (PML); to evaluate the efficacy of cidofovir in addition to HAART.

Methods: Retrospective multicenter cohort study of PML in HIV-1-infected patients. Diagnosis of PML was confirmed by histology or by positive polymerase chain reaction for JC virus (JCV) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or was made by typical radiologic and clinical findings.
