Comparison of percutaneous coronary intervention vs coronary artery bypass graft for left main coronary artery disease in patients with prior cerebrovascular disease: A systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression.

Background: Previous studies suggest similar cardiovascular (CV) benefits for either percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) in patients with left main coronary artery disease (LMCAD). However, limited data exist on the influence of prior cerebrovascular disease (CEVD). Thus, we aim to compare the CV outcomes in patients with LMCAD and prior CEVD, undergoing either PCI or CABG.

Prcis: In the real-world, retrospective, EXPAND study of consecutive adults with glaucoma, ab-externo gel stent implantation effectively lowered intraocular pressure (34%) and the medication burden (61%), with transient/self-resolving hypotony as the most frequent adverse event (28%).

Purpose: To assess effectiveness and safety of ab-externo gel stent (GS) implantation in glaucoma.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have shown benefits in improving cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF) and may mitigate symptom progression in myocardial infarction (MI). However, their effectiveness in patients with type 2 diabetes and MI undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is unclear.

Methods: To identify eligible studies, a comprehensive search of electronic databases, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Embase, was conducted from inception until May 2024.

Background: Cerebrovascular disease (CEVD) accounts for the second leading cause of death worldwide. Despite recent advancements in treatment strategies, the prevalence and cost associated with CEVD are rising. Atherosclerosis significantly contributes to CEVD risk by restricting cerebral blood flow, leading to ischemic stroke.

Content of cariostatic trace elements (F, Cu, and Zn) in the commercially packaged and public tap waters of Qatar.

Objectives: Drinking water containing optimal levels of cariostatic trace elements is an effective preventive approach against community-wide dental caries. This study aimed to (i) determine the concentrations of fluoride, copper, and zinc in commercially packaged and public tap water available in Qatar, (ii) assess the accuracy of the content of these cariostatic trace elements on commercial water brand labels, and (iii) check for seasonal fluctuations in the levels of these trace elements in commercial and public water samples.

Methods: Duplicate samples from 20 commercial and six public tap water sources were collected once in the summer and winter seasons.

Deep-Learning-Based Blood Glucose Detection Device Using Acetone Exhaled Breath Sensing Features of α-FeO-MWCNT Nanocomposites.

Owing to the correlation between acetone in human's exhaled breath (EB) and blood glucose, the development of EB acetone gas-sensing devices is important for early diagnosis of diabetes diseases. In this article, a noninvasive blood glucose detection device through acetone sensing in EB, based on an α-FeO-multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) nanocomposite, was successfully developed. Different amounts of α-FeO were added to the MWCNTs by a simple solution method.

Mechanistic Insights into the Stabilization of In Situ Formed γ-NiOOH Species on NiNb Nanoglass for Effective Urea Electro-Oxidation.

The formation of NiOOH on the catalyst surface is widely considered to be the active species in electrochemical urea oxidation reactions (UOR). Though in situ-formed NiOOH species are reported to be more active than the synthesized ones, the mechanistic study of the actual active species remains a daunting task due to the possibility of different phases and instability of surface-formed NiOOH. Herein, mechanistic UOR aspects of electrochemically activated metallic NiNb Nanoglass showing stability toward the γ-NiOOH phase are reported, probed via in situ Raman spectroscopy, supported by electron microscopy analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in contrast with the β-NiOOH formation favored on Ni foil.

Healthy eating index 2015 might be associated with migraine headaches: Results from a Case-Control study.

Migraine headaches are the most prevalent disabling primary headaches, affecting individuals at an active age. Dietary interventions are considered low-cost and practical approaches to migraine prophylaxis. Hence, the present study aimed to assess the association between adherence to the Healthy Eating Index 2015 (HEI-2015) and migraine headaches.

Remdesivir-Related Cardiac Adverse Effects in COVID-19 Patients: A Case-Control Study.

Background: There have been reports of serious side effects of Remdesivir, including cardiovascular complications. The present study aimed to determine the adverse cardiovascular effects of Remdesivir and the factors affecting them in COVID-19 patients.

Methods: The patients were classified into two groups: those receiving Remdesivir without cardiac complications and those receiving Remdesivir with cardiovascular complications.

Background: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) is one of the major complications of chemotherapy regimens commonly used in the treatment of solid and hematologic cancers. Given the high incidence of CIPN in antitumor therapies in patients and limited studies on antioxidants, this study was aimed to investigate the effect of Silybum marianum (SM) on cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy.

Materials And Methods: This double-blind randomized clinical trial study was performed on 60 cancer patients treated with cisplatin chemotherapy at Seyyed-o-Shohada Hospital of Isfahan during 2019-2020.

Objective: To understand immediate and long-term outcomes following hip fracture surgery in adults with schizophrenia.

Methods: Retrospective population-based cohort study leveraging health administrative databases from Ontario, Canada. Individuals aged 40-105 years with hip fracture surgery between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2019 were included.

Comparative analysis of cytotoxicity effects of two denture hard lining materials on human gingival fibroblasts: an in vitro study.

Background: The objective of this study was to compare the cytotoxicity of TDV and Rebase II denture hard liners on human gingival fibroblasts, aiming to address issues associated with incomplete polymerization and free monomers that affect material properties.

Methods: Seventy-two specimens (24 each of TDV, Rebase II, and controls) were prepared under aseptic conditions according to factory instructions. Cytotoxicity was determined using the MTT test with methyl tetrazolium salt added to the cell culture medium.

Osteoporosis management in adults with schizophrenia following index hip fracture event: a 10-year population-based retrospective cohort study, Ontario, Canada.

Unlabelled: Little is known about the incidence of osteoporosis testing and treatment in individuals with schizophrenia, who may be more likely to fracture. Using competing risk models, we found that schizophrenia was associated with lower incidence of testing or treatment. Implications are for understanding barriers and solutions for this disadvantaged group.

Uterine artery embolization versus myomectomy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Uterine fibroids are the commonest benign tumors of the reproductive tract in women of childbearing age. They are usually asymptomatic but can cause menorrhagia. Treatments include myomectomy and uterine artery embolization (UAE).

Resistive gas sensors for the detection of NHgas based on 2D WS, WSe, MoS, and MoSe: a review.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with a two-dimensional (2D) structure and semiconducting features are highly favorable for the production of NHgas sensors. Among the TMD family, WS, WSe, MoS, and MoSeexhibit high conductivity and a high surface area, along with high availability, reasons for which they are favored in gas-sensing studies. In this review, we have discussed the structure, synthesis, and NHsensing characteristics of pristine, decorated, doped, and composite-based WS, WSe, MoS, and MoSegas sensors.

Oncocytic Carcinoma with Liver Metastasis: Unusual Treatment Strategies and Clinical Insights-A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

We report a distinctive case of malignant oncocytic carcinoma originating in the pancreas, an organ rarely associated with such tumours. We discuss the diagnostic journey, highlighting the tumour's resemblance to renal cell carcinoma but without renal involvement. A significant aspect of this case is the successful and sustained response to combined immunotherapy and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, demonstrating a potential therapeutic pathway for similar rare cases.
