Background: Minimally invasive approaches for rectal cancer treatment are emerging as the standard of care. Robotic surgery is unfeasible across the country due to constrained resource allocation. This study aimed to assess the oncologic efficacy of laparoscopic resection for rectal cancer in a resource-limited setting.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, with increasing incidence and mortality rates. This case report presents a unique instance of a 66-year-old male patient with operable HCC who achieved a complete pathological response after short-term preoperative treatment with lenvatinib. The patient, with a history of diabetes and hypertension, was diagnosed with HCC and started on lenvatinib due to logistical reasons.

Anoop TM  The lack of data on management of elderly breast cancer patients' population makes most oncologists reluctant to treat them with the standard treatment protocols as advised for the younger patients. This study was done to identify the survival outcome and predictors of survival in elderly breast cancer patients treated with curative intent.  Newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer aged more than 65 years who received treatment with curative intent were included.

Article Synopsis
  • Some types of breast cancer, like triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), have issues with finding good treatment targets and show different ways they grow and behave.
  • Researchers studied a protein called galectin-3 in breast cancer tissues and found that higher levels of it are linked to more serious tumors and could help explain why some tumors resist treatment.
  • They discovered that galectin-3 often works together with another protein called vimentin, and when both are present, they help cancer cells survive, spread, and grow more aggressively in TNBC patients.

Despite the development of newer oncological treatment, the survival of patients with pancreatic cancer (PC) remains poor. Recent studies have identified exosomes as essential mediators of intercellular communications and play a vital role in tumor initiation, metastasis and chemoresistance. Thus, the utility of liquid biopsies using exosomes in PC management can be used for early detection, diagnosis, monitoring as well as drug delivery vehicles for cancer therapy.

Background: Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is an important serum tumour marker with a substantial role in diagnosis and monitoring of various solid tumours. About 36%-70% of breast cancers have elevated serum CEA. And the available studies show discrepancy in addressing the prognostic significance of CEA in advanced breast cancer.

Background: Although rare, taxane-induced interstitial pneumonitis is a well-recognized toxicity following chemotherapy. Data on taxane rechallenge in patients who developed taxane-induced interstitial pneumonitis following chemotherapy are limited. Here, we share our experience of acute interstitial pneumonitis following taxane chemotherapy for breast cancer and its clinical outcome following steroids and subsequent rechallenge with taxanes in selected patients without residual lung abnormalities on imaging following steroid treatment.

FinHer regimen is considered a relatively cardiac safe regimen for Her 2 positive breast cancer in resource-limited settings. There is limited data on cardiotoxicity of this regimen. Out of 1200 patients diagnosed with carcinoma breast during the study period, three hundred Her2-positive early-breast cancer patients received FinHer protocol were included.

Myeloid and lymphoid hematological malignancies with eosinophilia and abnormalities of fibroblast growth factor receptor-1 (FGFR1) result from the formation of abnormal fusion genes that encode constitutively activated tyrosine kinases. The WHO classification (2008) of hematolymphoid neoplasms recognizes a category of myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia and abnormalities of FGFR1. Here, we present the case of a 30-year-old-woman who was diagnosed with T-lymphoblastic lymphoma from lymph node biopsy and myeloproliferative neoplasm with eosinophilia from bone marrow studies.
