Background Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) are significant healthcare-associated infections that increase morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. This study aims to analyze the frequency, microbiology, risk factors, and outcomes of CLABSI in an adult intensive care unit. Methods We conducted a hospital-based, prospective surveillance study in the critical care unit of a tertiary care hospital.

This in turn can lead to failure of treatment, persistence or chronicity of infection. This hospital based, prospective, observational study investigates the presence of antimicrobial resistance in the organism with focus on detection of A2143G and A2142G major point mutations in domain V of H.

The present study reports the spread of ADC-30 co-producing KPC-2 along with other β-lactamases among carbapenem resistant A. baumannii strains obtained from ICU patients in two Indian hospitals.

Introduction: Although diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) strains are important bacterial causative agents of diarrhoea, they are not routinely sought as stool pathogens in clinical laboratories as conventional microbiological testing are unable to distinguish between normal flora and pathogenic strains of E. coli. This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of DEC pathotypes amongst children with and without diarrhoea and to detect specific virulent genes present in different DEC pathotypes, using real-time multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with high-resolution melting (HRM) technology.

The present study investigates the prevalence and diversity of aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes and 16S methyltransferases in A. baumannii isolates recovered from patients admitted in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a tertiary referral hospital in Northeastern India.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOnychomycosis refers to fungal nail infection. Despite a clearly diseased appearance, it is often deemed a merely cosmetic problem of relatively minor importance. However, it may result in much psychological or occupational turmoil, diminished self-esteem and resulting reluctance for public interaction.

The mortality directly attributable to BSI has been estimated to be around 16% and 40% in general hospital population and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) population, respectively. The detection rate of these infections increases with the number of blood samples obtained for culture.

The inclination for bacteria to become surface bound is so ubiquitous in diverse ecosystems that it suggests a strong survival strategy and selective advantage for surface dwellers over their free-ranging counterparts. Virtually any surface, biotic or abiotic (animal, mineral, or vegetable) is suitable for bacterial colonization and biofilm formation.

Nocardia asteroides was isolated from subcutaneous abscesses on the left thigh and shoulder of a renal transplant recipient. Direct examination of the aspirated pus showed branching filaments that were gram-positive and acid fast.

Background: The role of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) as aetiological agents in the causation of lung infections has seldom been systematically studied from India.
Methods: Prospective study of Species identification from mycobacterial isolates.
Results: A total of 22 isolates of mycobacteria were isolated from 635 samples of suspected tuberculosis in a two months period, of which 17 were Mycobacterium tuberculosis, three Mycobacterium kansasii and one each of Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium gordonae.
