On living in an ableist city: before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The images of cities before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic represent a contemporary challenge. During this period, thinking about being a person, being there and living in an ableist city/society brings to light the loss of rights and the demands of population segments, particularly in the face of architectural, communicational, attitudinal, sensory and sociocultural barriers. To thematize about experiencing the different types of daily inaccessibility in the cities come into contact with and raise discussions about the ethical-aesthetic level of the existential territories of people with disabilities and mental suffering.

Health and equity in Latin America: utopias and reality.

Curitiba's Declaration during the 22nd World Conference on Health Promotion of the IUHPE highlighted equity as a prerequisite for health and as an essential element of health promotion, though not as an isolated aim. Latin America today is facing the loss of civil rights, austerity policies and social inequities, which together are increasing the gap between rich and poor and putting the health sector on alert. As health professionals, it is therefore our responsibility to provide cross-cutting analyses on how inter-sectoral public policies might represent utopias and realities in such a dramatic period of our history.

The 'locus' of health oversight in Brazil's Unified Health System - a place between the knowledge and the practices of social mobilization.

Supervision of a health system presupposes keeping an attentive eye on the health situation of populations, so as to understand health, illness and healthcare as indissociable manifestations of human existence. Taking this point of view, this article examines health practices from the basis of some of their processes of communication. These are markedly professional-centered in their logic, with their emphasis on scientific, vertical and authoritarian discourse, predominantly in the spaces of the Unified Health System (SUS).

Impacts of a documentary on the daily lives of mothers and children with disabilities: an analysis of cine debates.

The article analyzes the impact of a documentary on the daily lives of mothers and children with disabilities, exhibited at conferences, festivals, universities and schools in Brazil, Colombia and Japan. Produced by film and health professionals, social scientists and a women's network, the feature film "A special day" was awarded at Assim Vivemos VI International Disability Film Festival (2013-2014). The objective is to analyze the impact of the film and its diffusion among professionals and students from health and education areas.

Depression risks in mothers of children with developmental disabilities: a cross-cultural comparison of Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Background: Compared with US or European countries, there are fewer mental health services for mothers of children with developmental disabilities in Latin American and/or Southeast Asian countries.

Aims: To explore the risk of depression in mothers of children with developmental disabilities in countries with a lack of mental health professionals, we conducted cross-cultural comparisons for four countries: Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Methods: Using the CES-D, we compared the participants' depressive symptoms, by which we also estimated the probability of morbid depression.

A Brazilian educational experiment: teleradiology on web TV.

Since 2004, educational videoconferences have been held in Brazil for paediatric radiologists in training. The RUTE network has been used, a high-speed national research and education network. Twelve videoconferences were recorded by the Health Channel and transformed into TV programmes, both for conventional broadcast and for access via the Internet.
