Incidence rates of pulmonary tuberculosis among immigrants from high incidence countries remain high for at least a decade after immigration into the Netherlands. Possible explanations are reactivation of old infections and infection transmitted after immigration. Control policies should be determined on the basis of the as-yet unknown main causes of the persistent high incidence.

Background: Many patients with congenital heart disease have persistent cardiac defects, psychosocial adjustment problems, and a poor quality of life. This study tested the relationship between negative thoughts and adaptation to congenital heart disease.

Methods: Eighty-two adult out-Patients with congenital heart disease were divided on the basis of few, moderate or many negative thoughts.
