Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) symptoms include nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, and facial pain associated with rhinosinusitis disability. We report on a case of cytomegalovirus (CMV) enterocolitis occurring in a 65-year-old patient after a first course of standard chemotherapy for a small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC). Colonic biopsies showed typical inclusion bodies, CMV IgM and IgG antibodies were found in the serum, and polymerase chain reaction for CMV-DNA was positive. Lymphopenia and diminished CD4 T-cell counts were observed.

The technique of sentinel lymph node (SLN) dissection is a reliable predictor of metastatic disease in the lymphatic basin draining the primary melanoma. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is emerging as a highly sensitive technique to detect micrometastases in SLNs, but its specificity has been questioned. A prospective SLN study in melanoma patients was undertaken to compare in detail immunopathological versus molecular detection methods.

We describe an alternative, endoscopical technique for the surgical removal of a rare chondrosarcoma on the nasal septum. The technique requires a resection of the whole tumour within margins in healthy osteocartilaginous nasal septum under endoscopic guidance and includes bilateral middle turbinectomy and ethmoidectomy. We present the case of a 57-year-old woman with a well-differentiated chondrosarcoma (Grade I) of the nasal septum.
