Background: Understanding the impact of breast implants on the histological response in the surrounding fibrous capsule is important; however, consensus is lacking on how to analyze implant capsules histologically. We aimed to develop a standardized histological assessment tool to be used in research potentially improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies for capsular contracture.
Methods: Biopsies of breast implant capsules from 480 patients who had undergone breast augmentation or reconstruction were collected and stained with hematoxylin and eosin.
Background: Capsular contracture is traditionally evaluated with the Baker classification, but this has notable limitations regarding reproducibility and objectivity.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop and validate procedure-specific histopathological scoring systems to assess capsular contracture severity.
Methods: Biopsies of breast implant capsules were used to develop histopathological scoring systems for patients following breast augmentation and breast reconstruction.
The clinical significance of the tumor-immune interaction in breast cancer is now established, and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have emerged as predictive and prognostic biomarkers for patients with triple-negative (estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2-negative) breast cancer and HER2-positive breast cancer. How computational assessments of TILs might complement manual TIL assessment in trial and daily practices is currently debated. Patients And Methods: Using the Danish Breast Cancer Group database, we identified patients with a diagnosis from 2000 to 2003 of estrogen receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative invasive ductal (n = 1570) or lobular (n = 341) cancer > 20 mm or 1 to 3 positive lymph nodes and applied multivariate Cox models.
Background: Tumor progression is accompanied by dramatic remodeling of the surrounding extracellular matrix leading to the formation of a tumor-specific ECM, which is often more collagen-rich and of increased stiffness. The altered ECM of the tumor supports cancer growth and metastasis, but it is unknown if this effect involves modulation of T cell activity. Methods: Articles included in this review were retrieved by searching PubMed (1966-2018) and EMBASE (1980-2018).
Objective: To compare the rate of positive resection margins between radioactive seed localization (RSL) and wire-guided localization (WGL) after breast conserving surgery (BCS).
Background: WGL is the current standard for localization of nonpalpable breast lesions in BCS, but there are several difficulties related to the method.
Methods: From January 1, 2014 to February 4, 2016, patients with nonpalpable invasive breast cancer or DCIS visible on ultrasound were enrolled in this randomized, multicenter, open-label clinical trial, and randomly assigned to RSL or WGL.
MicroRNAs have potential as diagnostic cancer biomarkers. The aim of this study was (1) to define microRNA expression patterns in formalin-fixed parafin-embedded tissue from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, ampullary adenocarcinoma, normal pancreas and chronic pancreatitis without using micro-dissection and (2) to discover new diagnostic microRNAs and combinations of microRNAs in cancer tissue. Methods: MiRNAs were purified from formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) cancer tissue from 225 patients operated for PC. Only a few of those patients received adjuvant chemotherapy.
Objectives: The frequencies and prognostic role of KRAS and BRAF mutations in patients operated on for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs) and ampullary adenocarcinomas (A-ACs) are scantily studied.
Methods: KRAS and BRAF mutations were analyzed in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor samples from primarily chemotherapy-naive patients operated on with radical intentions for PDAC (n = 170) and A-AC (n = 107).
Results: Eighty percent of PDAC patients had KRAS mutations (codon 12 mutations: 74%) and 67% with A-AC (codon 12 mutations: 54%).
Cancer in the gallbladder is rare, and each year about 160 cases are registered in Denmark. Most malignant tumours in the gallbladder are adenocarcinomas. We present a rare case of signet ring cell carcinoma of the gallbladder.

The prognosis of ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node recurrence after early breast cancer appears to be worse than for other loco-regional recurrences, but better than for distant metastases. Elevated serum levels of the protein YKL-40 are associated with a poor prognosis in patients with solid and hematologic malignancies including breast cancer.
