Article Synopsis
  • Researchers isolated two paralogs of the slc11 protein from the pufferfish Takifugu rubripes, named Fugu slc11a-a and Fugu slc11a-b, revealing high similarity and characteristic features of the slc11 family.
  • Both paralogs show 81% sequence similarity and have distinct tissue expression patterns and subcellular localizations, suggesting functional diversification.
  • The study contributes to the understanding of the evolution and role of slc11 transporters by comparing their genetic environments and protein characteristics.
