Background: Approximately 1.4 vascular surgeons/100,000 persons are estimated to fulfill current patient needs in the United States (US), but an ongoing shortage exists. The aims of this study are to provide an updated nationwide state-by-state workforce analysis and compare the distribution of practicing vascular surgeons and training opportunities.

Increased Surveillance or Increased Scrutiny: Curbing Inappropriate Screening of Endometrial Cancer in Transgender Men.

The transgender male body is often considered a "black box" by even the most senior of attending physicians. Because of the stigma and fear associated with the utilization of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and the lack of clinical knowledge surrounding the subject, many transgender men will experience unnecessary testing for endometrial cancers. This narrative review looked through publicly available PubMed and GoogleScholar articles on the topic of the use of pelvic ultrasounds in gynecological screening in transgendered males.

Schizoaffective Disorder and Concurrent Rhabdomyolysis.

The authors present a unique case of schizoaffective disorder exacerbation, complicated by substance misuse, rhabdomyolysis, and acute renal injury. The patient had been recently released from jail and was not on any psychiatric medications aside. His family reported bizarre behavior involving the patient spending a significant amount of time in an outdoor hot tub exposed to extreme heat, which the patient justified as necessary to protect him from snakes.

Severe loss of central vision in patients with advanced glaucoma undergoing trabeculectomy.

Objective: To evaluate the visual outcomes in patients with advanced visual field (VF) loss undergoing trabeculectomy with mitomycin C.

Methods: The records of patients with severe preoperative VF defects undergoing trabeculectomy from June 1, 1998, through October 31, 2005, were retrospectively reviewed. Severe loss of central vision was defined as visual acuity (VA) of 20/200 or less in the affected eye, counting fingers or less if preoperative VA was less than 20/200, or more than a 4-line reduction in Snellen VA.
