[Post-operative ileus].

Post-operative ileus (POI) is a common complication following especially open abdominal surgery. This review is an overview of the incidence, the current treatment and the future perspectives for POI. Adherence to the enhanced recovery programmes is of great importance, as it has shown a decreased length of POI and length of stay.
