The aim of this study was to describe the significance of the care attributed by professionals in attending child victims of abuse. This descriptive study, using a qualitative approach, was developed with 14 professionals in the pediatric emergency unit of a hospital in Fortaleza, in the period between March and June of 2014 by means of semi-structured interviews. The results identified two categories: 'Feelings and suffering of the health professional' and 'Limitations of the professional practice in the care of abused children'.

Empowerment is a process whereby people achieve mastery over their lives, acquiring knowledge to make decisions about their health. Chronic diseases are increasingly common in the health service, requiring the attention of health professionals and empowering those affected by them. The scope of this study was to analyze the perceptions of users with chronic diseases and monitored by the Family Health Program with respect to empowerment.

The current anthropological study focuses on the assessment by patients/citizens concerning the conduct of health professionals in a public general hospital in Fortaleza, Ceará State, Brazil. From January to July 2005 we tracked 13 key informants during hospitalization and analyzed their narratives of the experience. According to our observations, patients develop definite opinions of the caregivers' gestures and expressions during the entire process.
