- This study evaluated the effectiveness of sonication of 222 cement spacers to improve the diagnosis of persistent PJI compared to conventional tissue cultures.
- Results showed that while sonication identified some cases of persistent infection, its sensitivity (56.6%) was lower than that of periprosthetic tissue cultures (84.9%), suggesting sonication can be a useful but secondary diagnostic tool.
