Virtual reality (VR) emerges as a promising non-pharmacological intervention for managing symptoms and providing distraction during chemotherapy. This study aims to assess VR's effectiveness on cancer-related symptoms, vital signs, and the patients' perception of chemotherapy in lung cancer patients. : A quasi-experimental study was conducted on 100 patients.

The Italian Validation of the Healthcare Professional Humanization Scale for Nursing.

The Healthcare Professional Humanization Scale (HUMAS) is a measure of the evaluation of the humanization of care in nursing professions. Despite being validated for the Spanish language, there still needed validation in Italian, which seems essential considering the cultural differences. We aimed to test the validity and reliability of the HUMAS with an Italian sample of registered nurses.

Predictors of nurses' attitudes and knowledge towards pain management in Italy. A cross-sectional study in the hospital settings.

Introduction: Pain is multidimensional, and as such it is the chief reason patients require urgent health care services. If inadequately assessed and untreated, pain may negatively impact on the quality of life of the patient. Pain management is an essential part of Nursing.

Evaluating the Interchangeability of Forehead, Tympanic, and Axillary Thermometers in Italian Paediatric Clinical Settings: Results of a Multicentre Observational Study.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the interchangeability of infrared forehead, digital axillary, and infrared tympanic thermometers while identifying the most reliable non-invasive body temperature measurement method in paediatric settings.

Design And Methods: A multicentre observational study was conducted enrolling all children less than or equal to 14 years of age requiring a temperature measurement and after obtaining their parent's informed consent. Socio-demographic characteristics and temperature values in Celsius (°C) were simultaneously collected using forehead, axillary, and tympanic thermometers.

[Pain assessment in Down Syndrome patients: a narrative review of the literature].

Objective: The paper provides a description of available measurement tools which are able to adequately assess acute chronic pain in Down Syndrome (DS) patients, regardless of their age and cognitive impairment.

Methods: Papers referring to DS patients were sought using different databases, such as PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science (ISI) and Cochrane, with no limit of time and published up to October 2017. All validated tools applicable to DS patients were included in the search, which consisted of papers published both in English and Italian.

[Improving operating room efficiency: an observational and multidimensional approach in the San Camillo-Forlanini Hospital, Rome].

Aim: The management of operating rooms (ORs) is a complex process which requires an effective organizational scheme. In order to amore convinient allocation of resources a rigorous monitoring plan is needed to ensure operating rooms performances. All the necessary actions should be taken to improve the quality of the planning and scheduling procedure.

Digital Axillary and Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers for Children.

Axillary digital thermometers (ADTs) and non-contact (infrared) forehead thermometers (NCIFTs) are commonly used in pediatric settings, where an incorrect body temperature measurement may delay treatments or lead to incorrect diagnoses and therapies. Several studies comparing ADT or NCIFT with other methods have found conflicting results. To investigate whether ADT and NCIFT can be used interchangeably, a comparative observational study was conducted involving 205 children aged 0 to 14 years who were consecutively admitted to the pediatric emergency department.

Introduction: Individuals and population's health is influenced by environmental, social economical and cultural aspects which in turn connect individuals to society. In order to decide autonomously, independently and consciously individuals should have several competences. The aim of this study is to identify, analyse and emphasise health literacy concept relevance per se,its relationship with nursing through a narrative revision focused on: Health literacy definition recognition and analysis; evaluation of connection between nursing and health literacy.

[ICNP- International Classification of Nursing Practice: origin, structure and development].

ICNP is a standardized nursing terminology included within acknowledged terminologies by WHO, it is a relevant aspect of ICN programs and strategies. This paper aims to describe structure and characteristics of ICNP terminology as well as to highlight how this tool can be useful both in practice and in terms of nursing professional development. This version looks like a pyramid with seven axes describing different areas of nursing and related interventions, enriched by two special axes related to pre-coordinated Diagnosis / Outcomes (DC) and Operations (IC) which facilitate daily use in practice.

The Great War had a huge impact on Italian society. The organisation of the armed forces health service faced extreme difficulties due to the extensive loss of life of an almost exclusively terrestrial war. In this context, the role of the medical staff and nursing staff was essential, as the example of the volunteer Red Cross nurses testifies.

[Alzheimer's disease and caregivers experience in home care].

The aim of this study is to investigate the experience of primary caregivers (men and women) of Alzheimer Disease dementia, in order to tailor program and project to avoid care giving burden. A qualitative phenomenological method was used and the sample was defined by data saturation. Interviews were carried out and recorded in a day care Centre, transcribed verbatim.

[The status of the art of scientific articles in Italy between 2003 -2009: an analysis of articles published by nursing Italian journals].

This study investigates  the number of  articles published by Italian nursing journals by analyzing five Italian journals between 2003 and 2009. This is the third part of a study started  in 1978,  two articles were already published in 2005. The work is aimed at monitoring the number of nursing articles published.

[Hand washing: comparison between professionals and students behaviours in a large University hospital of Rome].

The main objective of the study is assessing knowledge, opinions and compliance with the procedures of health professionals (physician, nurses, medical and nursing students) about Hand Hygiene (HH). There is a number of research which indicates that physicians respect less than nurses Hand Hygiene, there are a smaller number which investigates the differences in the attitude of the aforementioned subjects during their studies. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 756 participants (252 doctors, 268 nurses, 117 nursing students and 119 students of medicine) at a large University Hospital in Rome, to determine their knowledge, compliance and procedures with Hand Hygiene.

[EU-Project "healthPROelderly" - evidence-based guidelines on health promotion for older people: social determinants, inequality and sustainability].

In this phase of rapid demographic change and low birth rate , coupled with an increasing life expectancy , the challenge for the future consists of being able to age in good health . European policies should therefore be aimed at promoting healthiness in the elderly and, although some CEE countries have introduced various projects and schemes, the majority are of a national or local nature and do not take into account the European context. The healthPROelderly project, on the other hand , is aimed at collecting information in the countries who participate in the project to pinpoint the best schemes for promoting healthiness in the elderly.

[Multi-ethnic nursing].

Among the many activities of nurses, the role of intermediary between the client and the health institutions is one of the most important . In this role, nurses may have to deal with cultural conflicts in order to fulfill the requirements of a multi-ethnic client population coming from may different cultures. By adopting an instrument capable of assessing the trans-cultural and inter-cultural knowledge of nurses, it may be possible to fill in any gaps by means of appropriate training or education.

[Nurses and research: an analysis of two international nursing journals].

The intent of the article, dedicated to a series (Prof Inf, 4,2005:229-235 e 236-245) of what nurses write, two European Nursing journals are analysed by categorizing nursing research and non research articles comparing with two Italian refereed Nursing Journals. Results show a tendency of a prevalence of nursing research articles (quantitative and qualitative methods) for all categories in those European (J. Nurs Manag and J Adv Nurs) compared with a prevalence of non research articles in the two Italian refereed Nursing journals.

[A picture of the Italian nursing scientific literature as a result of nursing journals analysis. (part 2) 1998-2003].

This article analyzes the Italian scientific Nursing production published on five National Nursing Journals from 1978 to 2003 it is the second part of the article in the antecedents pages. Results are showing that the Nursing literature production as it appears from dedicated Journals, is following a constant development. Of course each Journal has its own characteristics and specificity but in general more articles than in the past (1978-1998) are presenting research methodology discussions and reports of research conducted in the Nursing field.

[A picture of the Italian nursing scientific literature as a result of nursing journal analysis. First part: 1978-1997].

This is the result of a revision of what Italian nurses have written from 1978 to 1997 in Nursing Journals. Four well known Nursing Journals have been selected and taken into consideration: two are the only nursing refereed journals in the Country (one is a nursing Association official journal), one is the official journal of the National nursing Statutory Body and one is a specialty nursing Group journal. Articles has been divided into seven categories and results show that Italian nurses lack in the continuity of writing.

[Critical selection of nursing literature].

The aim of the article is to sensitize nurses to use systematic bibliographic review to have a picture of nursing scientific products in nursing domain (education, management, research and clinical). It is a must to contribute to the scientific development of nursing by methods, tools and critical evaluation systems to be able to choose the useful information. To become familiar with international literature it is necessary to be familiar with specific consultation criteria that respect and are part of a systematic process that can be devised in: access, individuation, selection and font utility.
