The Northern Territory (NT) and Far North Queensland (FNQ) have a high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women birthing who experience hyperglycaemia in pregnancy. A multi-component health systems intervention to improve antenatal and postpartum care in these regions for women with hyperglycaemia in pregnancy was implemented between 2016 and 2019. Background: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are disproportionately impacted by type 2 diabetes. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology (such as Abbott Freestyle Libre 2, previously referred to as Flash Glucose Monitoring) offers real-time glucose monitoring that is convenient and easy to use compared to self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG). However, this technology's use is neither widespread nor subsidised for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with type 2 diabetes.

This review outlines some of the extraordinary recent advances in diabetes technology, which are transforming the management of type 1 diabetes before, during and after pregnancy. It highlights recent improvements associated with use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) but acknowledges that neither CGM nor insulin pump therapy are adequate for achieving the pregnancy glucose targets. Furthermore, even hybrid closed-loop (HCL) systems that are clinically effective outside of pregnancy may not confer additional benefits throughout pregnancy.

Purpose: Tumor boards serve as established platforms for interdisciplinary expert discussions and therapeutic recommendations tailored to individual patient characteristics. Despite their significance, medical students often lack exposure to such interdisciplinary discussions as tumor boards are currently not integrated into medical curricula. To analyze the perioperative course and clinical outcome of patients with large (lPA) and giant (gPA) pituitary adenoma who underwent endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery (EETS) using either two-dimensional (2D-E) or three-dimensional (3D-E) endoscopic systems. Single-center retrospective study of consecutive patients with lPA and gPA who underwent EETS between November 2008 and January 2023. LPA were defined as ≥ 3 cm and < 4 cm in diameter in at least one dimension and a volume of ≥ 10ccm; gPA were defined as larger than 4 cm in diameter and with a greater volume than 10ccm.

Aim: Peripheral nerve tumors (PNT) are rare lesions. To date, no systematic multicenter studies on epidemiology, clinical symptoms, treatment strategies and outcomes, genetic and histopathologic features, as well as imaging characteristics of PNT were published. The main goal of our PNT Registry is the systematic multicenter investigation to improve our understanding of PNT and to assist future interventional studies in establishing hypotheses, determining potential endpoints, and assessing treatment efficacy.

Despite enormous research efforts, the disease mechanisms causing multiple sclerosis (MS) are still incompletely understood, suggesting a complex and multifaceted pathogenesis. Here, we report the clinical observation that in a designated German center for Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), the number of MS cases among NF2 patients is higher than in the general population. Epidemiological studies investigating a connection between NF2 and MS are difficult to perform due to the rarity of NF2 disease.

Over the last 10 years, with the development of culture-free bacterial identification techniques, understanding of how the microbiome influences diseases has increased exponentially and has highlighted potential opportunities for its use as a diagnostic biomarker and interventional target in many diseases including malignancy. Initial research focused on the faecal microbiome since it contains the densest bacterial populations and many other mucosal sites, such as the lungs, were until recently thought to be sterile. However, in recent years, it has become clear that the lower airways are home to a dynamic bacterial population sustained by the migration and elimination of microbes from the gastrointestinal and upper airway tracts.

Background: Computed tomography (CT) guided biopsies have long been the standard technique to obtain tissue from the thoracic cavity and is traditionally performed by interventional radiologists. Ultrasound (US) guided biopsy of pleural-based lesions, performed by pulmonologists is gaining popularity and has the advantage of multi-planar imaging, real-time technique, and the absence of radiation exposure to patients. In this study, we aim to determine the diagnostic accuracy, the time to diagnosis after the initial consult placement, and the complications rates between the two different modalities.
