To understand the pathogenesis of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP), it is necessary to establish the molecular-cellular mechanisms of myocardial aging, including those associated with programmed cell death, the molecular mechanisms of which have not been practically studied. The aim of this work is to study markers of apoptosis in cardiomyocytes of patients with DCMP in vitro. We used the method of primary dissociated cell cultures and the method of immunofluorescence confocal laser microscopy.

Article Synopsis
  • Russia started using a vaccine called PCV13 in 2014 to protect children from pneumonia!
  • A study looked at healthy kids under 6 in different cities from 2016 to 2018, finding that most had not finished the full vaccine series!
  • The results showed that vaccinated kids had fewer of the vaccine-targeted germs but more of other types compared to unvaccinated kids!

Background: Evidence suggests that early adaptive responses of hepatic mitochondria occur in experimentally induced sepsis. Little is known about both colonic mitochondrial function during abdominal infection and long-term changes in mitochondrial function under inflammatory conditions. We hypothesize that hepatic and colonic mitochondrial oxygen consumption changes time-dependently after sterile laparotomy and in the course of abdominal infection.

Unlabelled: Background aim: Reperfusion after hemorrhagic traumatic shock (HTS) is often associated with complications that are partly ascribed to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The aim of our study was to compare the effects of restrictive reperfusion (RR) to rapid full reperfusion (FR) on ROS formation and/or oxidative events.

Materials And Methods: Anesthetized male rats were randomly subjected to HTS followed by FR (75 mL/kg/h) or RR (30 mL/kg/h for 40 min, followed by 75 mL/kg/h) with Ringer's solution (n = 8/group).

Our aim was to characterize the main components of the nitrosative response with quantitative changes of the nitrergic myenteric neurons in adjacent intestinal segments after transient superior mesenteric artery occlusion. We also tested the hypothesis that exogenous methane may modulate the evolution of nitroxidation by influencing xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) activity. The microcirculatory consequences of a 50 min ischemia or ischemia-reperfusion were investigated in anesthetized rats (n = 124) inhaling normoxic air with or without 2.

Mitochondrial dysfunction is assumed to be an important contributor to multi organ dysfunction syndrome. Here, the effects of varying degrees of sepsis on hepatic mitochondrial function were investigated. Moderate or more severe sepsis was induced in rats using a colon ascendens stent peritonitis (CASP)-model (16 G and 14 G stent respectively).

We examined the association of individual demographic and behavioral attributes, partnership (dyad) and social network characteristics with unprotected sex in the heterosexual dyads of IDUs in St. Petersburg, Russia. Of the individual-level characteristics female gender and younger age; and of the dyad-level characteristics sharing injecting equipment, social exposure to the sex partner ("hanging out with" or seeing each other daily), and both partners self-reporting being HIV infected were associated with unprotected sex.

Aims: To assess among injecting drug users (IDUs) in St. Petersburg, Russia, the urban environment, social norms and individual correlates of unsafe injecting.

Methods: Between December 2004 and January 2007, 446 IDUs were interviewed in St.

In this study, we investigated how individual attributes, dyad characteristics and social network characteristics may influence engaging in receptive syringe sharing, distributive syringe sharing and sharing cookers in injecting partnerships of IDUs in St Petersburg, Russia. We found that all three levels were associated with injecting equipment sharing, and that dyad characteristics were modified by characteristics of the social network. Self-reported HIV discordance and male gender concordance played a role in the risk of equipment sharing.
