View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a group of calcium-dependent zinc-containing proteinases acting both physiologically and in pathological conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentration of MMP-2, MMP-8, and MMP-9 and their inhibitors TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 of unstimulated whole saliva (UWS) in correlation with the oral health in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) children.
Methods: The study population comprised 34 JIA patients and 34 age- and sex-matched controls (C).
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the Polish school nurses' opinion on the topical fluoride treatment and their knowledge about fluoride safety.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with the use of a self-administered questionnaire was conducted on 164 school nurses. The questionnaire concerned previous training in caries prevention, action taken at schools with regard to caries prevention, cooperation with dentists, opinion on the topical fluoride application program and nurses' knowledge about fluoride safety.
Background: Actinomyces species have a low virulence and pathogenicity, but under specific circumstances they may be involved in root canal and periapical tissue infections.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the antibacterial activity of various root canal sealers on standardized strains of Actinomyces.
Material And Methods: The materials tested in this study included AH Plus™ Jet (AH), Apexit® Plus (AP), Endomethasone N (EN), GuttaFlow® (GF), Hybrid Root SEAL (HB), MTA Fillapex (FL), Real® Seal (RCS), Roeko Seal Automix (RSA), Sealapex™ (SP), and Tubli-Seal™ (TS).
The aim of the study was to compare ex vivo the toxic effects of six root canal sealers immediately after mixing or setting on human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (HPdLF). Freshly mixed (I group) or set (allowed to dry for 24 h) (II group) specimens of AH Plus Jet (AH), Apexit Plus (AP), MTA Fillapex (FL), GuttaFlow (GF), MetaSEAL Soft (META), and Tubli-Seal (TS) were prepared. HPdLF were exposed for 24 h to the specimens.

This can be achieved through regular control visits consistent with the standards, and also through following the recommendations for prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease. Background: There have been inconsistent conclusions regarding salivary abnormalities and their effect on oral health of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) patients. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the flow rate and selected biochemical parameters of unstimulated whole saliva in correlation to oral health in JIA children.
Methods: Thirty-four JIA patients and 34 age- and sex-matched controls not affected by JIA (C) were divided into two groups: with mixed and permanent dentition.
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common autoimmune inflammatory disease of connective tissue in children. It is characterized by progressive joint destruction which causes preserved changes in the musculoskeletal system. The literature describes fully clinical symptoms and radiological images in different subtypes of JIA.

Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the self-reported oral health behaviour of Scandinavian and Polish medical students studying in Poland.
Methods: Three hundred and fifty subjects took part in the questionnaire survey. They were the 4th to 6th year Scandinavian and Polish medical students attending the same medical school.
Background: The frequency of dental trauma in schools is secondary only to accidents at home. The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of first aid in the avulsion of permanent teeth presented by Polish school nurses from different areas.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with the use of a structured self-administrative questionnaire was conducted in 2014 on school nurses working in randomly selected Polish provinces.
Purpose: To evaluate the caries prevalence and experience in primary molars in Polish 6- to 7-year-old children using the Caries Assessment Spectrum and Treatment index.
Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on a sample of 332 out of 468 invited children (140 6- and 192 7-year-olds). Cluster sampling was used to select the participating schools.
Aim: The aim of this study was to perform a comparative assessment of the toxic action of root canal sealers currently on the market on human gingival fibroblasts after setting.
Material/methods: The inserts with an equal quantity of set root canal sealers were transferred into 24-well culture dishes containing human gingival fibroblasts cultured in Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM) supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum (FCS). The dishes with materials were incubated at 37°C, 100% humidity and in an atmosphere of 5% CO2 for 24 h.
Objective: With a microcomputed tomography (microCT) imaging device, we aimed to quantitatively evaluate root canal fillings after commonly used endodontic procedures and also tested the suitability of microCT for this purpose.
Materials And Methods: Eighty single roots were instrumented and obturated with gutta-percha and Tubli-Seal. They were divided into 4 groups of 20.
Background: No reports on a caries pattern covering the full spectrum of the disease could be found in the literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate caries in primary and first permanent molars of 7-8-year-old Polish children by the Caries Assessment Spectrum and Treatment (CAST) index and to find whether there was any correlation between the caries stages in such teeth.
Methods: The study covered 284 7-8-year-old children from randomly selected schools in the Bialystok District, Poland.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to apply microcomputed tomography to quantitative evaluation of voids and to test any specific location of voids in tooth's root canal obturations.
Materials And Methods: Twenty root canals were prepared and obturated with gutta-percha and Tubli-Seal sealer using the thermoplastic compaction method (System B+Obtura II). Roots were scanned and three-dimensional visualization was obtained.

The occlusal loading plays an essential role in development and failure of restorative treatment of this kind of defects. Dental plaque is involved in the formation of caries defects, while those of non-caries origin are produced due to the action of mechanical and chemical factors. The treatment consists in wide fluoride prophylaxis (elimination of causes) and in the application of mineralization procedures and restoration of missing dental tissue using modern dental highly-adhesive materials.
