Purpose: Hostile aortic neck characteristics, including short length, severe suprarenal and infrarenal angulation, conicity, and large diameter, have been associated with increased risk for type Ia endoleak (T1aEL) after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). This study investigates the mid-term discriminative ability of a statistical shape model (SSM) of the infrarenal aortic neck morphology compared with or in combination with conventional measurements in patients who developed T1aEL post-EVAR.

Objective: The Observing a Decade of Yearly Standardised Surveillance in EVAR patients with Ultrasound or CT Scan (ODYSSEUS) study was conducted to assess differences in outcomes of patients with continued or discontinued yearly follow up after endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR). Earlier results of this study showed that discontinued follow up was not associated with poor outcomes. Therefore, an incremental cost analysis and budget impact analysis of de-implementation of yearly imaging following EVAR was performed.

Esophageal perforation after endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration for mediastinal staging is a rare but severe complication. We report 2 cases of patients with esophageal perforation who were treated using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in combination with esophageal stenting. Through these cases, the feasibility of minimally invasive thoracic surgery was evaluated.

Introduction: Strict imaging surveillance protocols to detect complications following endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) are common practice. However, controversy exists as to whether all EVAR patients need intense surveillance. We present a case of a 81-year-old man who was admitted with rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm 4 years after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). He was compliant with yearly follow-up with computed tomography angiography. This case shows that the ultimate failure of EVAR may be impossible to predict.

A Common Rejection Module (CRM) consisting of 11 genes expressed in allograft biopsies was previously reported to serve as a biomarker for acute rejection (AR), correlate with the extent of graft injury, and predict future allograft damage. We investigated the use of this gene panel on the urine cell pellet of kidney transplant patients. Urinary cell sediments collected from patients with biopsy-confirmed acute rejection, borderline AR (bAR), BK virus nephropathy (BKVN), and stable kidney grafts with normal protocol biopsies (STA) were analyzed for expression of these 11 genes using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR).
