Effects of Depilatory Cream Formulation and Contact Time on Mouse Skin.

Depilatory creams are widely used in research to remove hair in preparation for surgery, imaging, and other procedures. However, few studies have evaluated the effects of these creams on mouse skin. We sought to determine the cutaneous effects of 2 different depilatory formulations of a widely used brand as related to the duration of exposure.

Proliferative, lymphocytic, infundibular mural folliculitis and dermatitis with prominent follicular apoptosis and parakeratotic casts in four Labrador retrievers: preliminary description and response to therapy.

Objectives: To describe the clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical lesions and the response to therapy of a novel skin disease in four dogs, and to compare the lesions with those of other similar conditions.

Methods: Clinical lesions, the histopathological findings in skin biopsy samples, immunohistochemistry for CD3 and cleaved caspase-3 and the response to therapy were evaluated.

Results: Clinical lesions included multifocal, coalescing, verrucous, crusted papules and plaques with erythematous borders and comedones or follicular casts.

Pathogenesis of canine interdigital palmar and plantar comedones and follicular cysts, and their response to laser surgery.

This study documents the presence of comedones and follicular cysts of palmar and plantar interdigital skin as an underlying cause of recurrent dermatitis, and describes the use of a carbon dioxide laser to surgically remove lesions. The 28 dogs included in the study had: (i) recurrent lameness, pain, and nodules, or draining sinuses in the dorsal interdigital skin, (ii) failed to respond to antibiotic therapy, and (iii) were negative for Demodex mites and dermatophytes. All 28 had laser surgery; nine dogs had two surgical procedures and two dogs had three surgical procedures for lesion recurrence.

Intraepidermal adenocarcinoma in the perianal skin of two cats, a condition resembling human extramammary Paget's disease.

In humans, mammary and extramammary Paget's disease is an uncommon to rare manifestation of intraepidermal adenocarcinoma arising from simple epithelium, usually glandular in origin. This report describes two cats with lesions in perianal skin consisting of atypical intraepidermal neoplastic cells. Differential diagnoses included intraepidermal adenocarcinoma, in situ squamous or basal cell carcinoma, junctional amelanotic melanoma, and epitheliotropic tumours of histiocytic or lymphocytic origin.

Follicular lipidosis in three Rottweilers.

Abstract  Follicular lipidosis is reported in three young Rottweilers that developed hypotrichosis of the mahogany-coloured points of the face and feet. One dog had concurrent lightening and dulling of the remaining hair. Hair matrix cells were swollen with intracellular lipid, identified by electron microscopy and oil-red-O staining.
