Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated the effectiveness of Anion Exchange Resin (AER) in reducing serum levels of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) in adults exposed to high levels of PFAS.
  • It was a controlled crossover trial with 45 participants, where one group received AER and the other was observed for 12 weeks.
  • Results showed that treatment significantly decreased PFOS levels by a mean of 115 ng/mL (60%), with no serious side effects, indicating AER could be a viable treatment option for PFOS elimination.

Article Synopsis
  • PFAS are man-made chemicals that have been widely used since the 1950s for their water- and grease-repellent properties and resistance to heat.
  • These substances are extremely persistent in the environment and have been linked to various health issues, including immune problems, hormonal disruptions, and certain cancers.
  • The text reviews PFAS pollution in Denmark, focusing on human exposure, potential health effects, and how patients are managed in environmental medicine.

Objectives: Tension-type headache (TTH) is the most prevalent primary headache disorder. We assessed the cross-sectional impact of TTH on health related quality of life (HRQoL) in a general population. We also examined the association of HRQoL scores with headache frequency, disability, medication overuse, poor self-rated health, psychiatric comorbidity, and pain sensitivity in individuals with TTH.

Background: We assessed the prevalence of neck pain in the population in relation to headache.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a total of 797 individuals completed a headache interview and provided self-reported data on neck pain. We identified migraine, TTH or both migraine and TTH (M+TTH) groups.

The Mental Vulnerability Questionnaire was originally a 22 item scale, later reduced to a 12 item scale. In population studies the 12 item scale has been a significant predictor of health and illness. The scale has not been psychometrically evaluated for more than 30 years, and the aim of the present study was both to evaluate the psychometric properties of the 22 and 12 item scales and of three new scales.

Objective: To determine the prognosis of migraine and tension-type headache and to identify prognostic factors.

Methods: Of 740 persons (aged 25 to 64 years) examined in a 1989 Danish cross-sectional headache study, 673 were eligible for follow-up in 2001. All interviews at baseline and at follow-up were conducted by medical doctors and based on the 1988 IHS-criteria.

Objective: The present study aims to compare the prevalence of primary headaches in Denmark in two periods as only few replicate studies have re-evaluated the prevalence of primary headaches.

Study Design And Setting: The 2001 study is a replicate of a cross-sectional survey of primary headaches in 1989, and compares 297 subjects aged 25-36 years from the general population, with the 294 comparable subjects invited in 1989. Medical doctors diagnosed all headaches using IHS-classification.
