Isolated pulmonary valve endocarditis leading to right ventricular outflow obstruction.

Isolated native pulmonary valve endocarditis is rare. We present a rare case of isolated native pulmonary valve endocarditis resulting in severe right ventricular outflow tract obstruction in an immunocompetent patient with surgically repaired ventricular septal defect caused by Burkholderia cepacia.

Temporary pacing through umbilical venous route for neonatal heart failure due to complete atrioventricular block.

We present a case of a neonate who presented with worsening heart failure due to congenital complete atrioventricular (AV) block, secondary to maternal anti Ro/SSA and anti-LA/SSB antibodies. The patient was implanted a temporary pacemaker in view of hemodynamic deterioration and subsequently was weaned off ionotropic support and referred for permanent epicardial pacemaker implantation. We report temporary pacemaker implantation in a neonate with hemodynamic instability as a stabilizing measure and discuss technical challenges for the same.

Causes & risk factors for unscheduled readmissions in the paediatric ward of a major public hospital.

Background & Objectives: Readmissions are often considered as an indicator of poor quality of care during previous hospitalization, although many of these are unavoidable or unrelated to the past admission. The identification of high-risk cases for readmissions and appropriate interventions will help not only reduce the hospital burden but also to establish the credibility of the hospital. So this study aimed to determine the readmission percentage in the paediatric wards of a tertiary care hospital and to identify the reasons and risk factors that can help minimize preventable re-hospitalizations.

Evaluation of Issues Affecting Time Between Study Completion, Manuscript Submission, Acceptance, and Publication in Medical Journals.

Introduction: Difficulty in finding the appropriate journal, adherence to the formatting differences between various journals, publication fees, delay in acceptance/rejection, etc., are a few reasons due to which much research is not published or when published the data in the research may become outdated. There are no studies to find out the issues which affect the time delay between study completion, submission to the journal, acceptance by the journal, and publication.

Physiologic proteinuria in labor and postpartum: The results of the postpartum proteinuria trial (PoPPy).

The urine protein to creatinine ratio (PC) is a sensitive and specific means of diagnosing preeclampsia in the antepartum period, but the 0.3 g protein per gram of creatinine threshold may be non-specific postpartum due to physiologic proteinuria after delivery. The objective of this study was to examine the reliability of PC in labor and postpartum and to determine if PC is affected by mode of delivery.

Are Women With Threatened Preterm Labor More Dehydrated Than Women Without It?

Objective: To determine if women who present to the labor and delivery unit at 23 0/7 to 36 6/7 weeks gestation with threatened preterm labor (TPTL) are more likely to be dehydrated than women who present at the same gestational age for other reasons.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Vasa Previa: Prenatal Diagnosis and Outcomes: Thirty-five Cases From a Single Maternal-Fetal Medicine Practice.

Objectives: To assess the accuracy and effectiveness of routine screening for vasa previa, to describe our experience, and to assess factors that contribute to missed cases of vasa previa.

Methods: A retrospective descriptive study of all cases of vasa previa from a single maternal-fetal medicine service between 2009 and 2017 was performed. Ultrasound findings and obstetric and neonatal outcomes were reviewed and analyzed.
