- This study investigates the effectiveness of adding 1% metformin to demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) in treating intrabony defects in patients with chronic periodontitis.
- 20 sites were evaluated, with 10 receiving DFDBA alone and 10 receiving DFDBA with metformin, showing significant improvements in clinical parameters over 9 months for both treatments.
- However, there were no significant differences between the two groups, indicating that metformin does not provide additional benefits over DFDBA alone for periodontal regeneration.

Desquamative gingivitis is a gingival response associated with a variety of clinical conditions and characterized by intense erythema, desquamation and ulceration of free and attached gingiva. A variety of diseases such as lichen planus, pemphigus, pemphigoid, dermatitis herpetiformis, linear IgA disease, lupus erythematosus, erythema multiformae manifest clinically as desquamative gingivitis. Of all the disease entities, Lichen Planus is a relatively common disorder affecting the skin and mucous membrane.
