Mutations in the gene encoding glutamine-fructose-6-phosphate transaminase 1 (GFPT1) cause the neuromuscular disorder limb-girdle congenital myasthenic syndrome (LG-CMS). One recurrent GFPT1 mutation detected in LG-CMS patients is a c.*22C>A transversion in the 3'-untranslated region (UTR).

Background: Duchenne muscular dystrophy is an inherited degenerative neuromuscular disease characterised by rapidly progressive muscle weakness. Currently, curative treatment is not available.
