Silver hair in a neonate: a tale of 2 fatal cases.

Silver hair in a neonate is an uncommon occurrence. The aetiology of this condition is varied and is associated with immunodeficiency disorders such as Griscelli syndrome and Chédiak-Higashi syndrome. A preterm neonate with Griscelli syndrome type 2 might present with just silver colour staining of hair including the lanugo hair with no other complications.

A comparison of different dosing regimen of intravenous paracetamol for hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus closure in premature neonates <32 weeks: a prospective observational study.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of low vs conventional dose intravenous paracetamol in early closure of haemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus within 7 days of life.

Methods: Preterm infants (<32 weeks of gestation) having echocardiographic evidence of hsPDA were given low dose (15 mg/kg initially followed by 7.5 mg/kg every 6 hourly) vs conventional dose (15 mg/kg every 6 hourly) for 5-7 days.

Objective: Sepsis often prompts clinicians to start empirical antibiotics in suspected neonates while awaiting diagnosis. The next-generation testing with point-of-care (POC) techniques offers a lead-time advantage that could bridge the gap by providing a timely diagnosis.

Epidermolysis bullosa in a mother-infant dyad.

Epidermolysis Bullosa is an inherited mechanobullous disorder which presents in the neonatal period as blistering skin lesions. In this case report, we describe an uncommon presentation of Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex in a term infant, weighing 2640 g, born to a mother who was also diagnosed with Epidermolysis Bullosa Pruriginosa during the course of the evaluation of her newborn. The clinical situation presented us with a unique dilemma with regard to routine newborn care practices including handling, skin and diaper care.

A case report on umbilical artery catheter embolization in a neonate, and its surgical management.

Being delicate, they can get inadvertently damaged by needles, scissors, or tight purse-string sutures during insertion and removal.
