Measles Elimination: Identifying Susceptible Sub-Populations to Tailor Immunization Strategies.

Measles elimination has been identified as a public health priority in Europe for a long time but has not yet been achieved. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends identification of susceptible sub-populations to target supplementary immunization activities. We used three different sources of information: retrospective samples investigated for measles IgG between 1997 and 2016, vaccine coverage data from the existing electronic registry for birth cohorts 2015 to 1999, and surveillance data from 2009 until 20 July 2019.

Factors affecting HPV vaccine acceptance in west Austria: Do we need to revise the current immunization scheme?

Background: Austria introduced a school-based gender-neutral human papillomavirus (HPV) immunization program in February 2014. In order to assure high coverage, factors influencing acceptance of the vaccine need to be identified. In this study we aim to assess parents' attitude and related socio-demographic factors in relation to the newly implemented gender-neutral, school-based HPV Immunization program.

A food-borne outbreak of Shigella sonnei gastroenteritis, Austria, 2008.

We report on the first foodborne outbreak of Shigella sonnei described in Austria. On July 14 2008, AGES was informed of a cluster of 22 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with S. sonnei restricted to public health district X in the province of Salzburg.

Lessons learned from a Salmonella enteritidis phage type 4 outbreak in Austria, 2005.

An outbreak of gastroenteritis due to Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 4 occurred in people who attended a traditional hunting festivity in a small village in western Austria 6 through 11 November 2005. Of approximately 250 attendees, 227 had consumed dishes offered at the festival, and of these consumers 35 persons fulfilled the outbreak case definition (attack rate of 15.4%).

Vaccine strategies of meningococcal disease: results of a 10-year population-based study.

Unlabelled: Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children and adults. This study was conducted to determine a possible increase in IMD in recent years with special interest focused on serogroup C disease. From January 1st 1993 to December 31st 2002, IMD was studied in one million residents of Austria.
