Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a complication linked to negative outcomes after cardiac surgery, and this study examines preoperative hypersensitive C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) as a potential predictor of POCD in patients with valvular heart disease (VHD).
  • Analyzing data from 372 VHD patients, the study found a 27.6% incidence of POCD one month post-surgery, with significant differences in age, education level, Hs-CRP levels, and duration of mechanical ventilation between patients who developed POCD and those who did not.
  • The findings suggest that elevated preoperative Hs-CRP levels are an independent risk factor for POCD,

Purpose: Acute Type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) is a rare and life-threatening aortic disease. This study was aimed at the potential of the D-dimer to platelet count ratio (DPR) as a prognostic indicator of ATAAD.

Patients And Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed ATAAD patients who were admitted to the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Fujian Medical University Union Hospital from January 2022 to April 2023.

Malnutrition is linked to adverse outcomes in post-cardiac surgery patients. This study investigates the correlation between the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) and adverse hospital outcomes in patients following cardiac surgery. This retrospective study included elderly patients with heart disease who were admitted to the Department of Cardiology, Fujian Medical University Union Hospital from January 2020 to December 2022.

Objective: To explore the role of Dlx1as, a natural antisense transcript, in mice brain development.

Methods: Based on the bioinformatic and molecular biological findings, we confirmed whether the Dlx1as has a poly-A tail. The temporal expressions of Dlx1as and Dlx1 mRNA were determined by quantitative real-time PCR and the spatial expressions of Dlx1as and Dlx1 mRNA were compared by using in situ hybridization.

It has been reported that ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme 9 (Ubc9), the unique enzyme2 in the sumoylation pathway, is up-regulated in many cancers. However, the expression and regulation of UBC9 in glioma remains unknown. In this study, we found that Ubc9 was up-regulated in glioma tissues and cell lines compared to a normal control.
