Cognitive impairments in type 1 diabetes mellitus model mice are associated with synaptic protein disorders.

An association between type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and cognitive impairment was recently reported. However, the mechanisms by which T1DM induces cognitive impairment are still unknown. Here, we confirmed that T1DM mice induced by streptozotocin (STZ) injection had impaired working memory and spatial memory.

Intercellular transport of Tau protein and β-amyloid mediated by tunneling nanotubes.

Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are thin channel-like structures connecting distant cells, providing a route for intercellular communication. In this study, we investigated the physical properties, including the cytoskeletal components, length and diameter, of the TNTs formed by HEK293T, U87 MG, and U251 cell lines. We found that organelles such as lysosomes, mitochondria, and Golgi bodies can be transported through TNTs, indicating that TNTs can mediate material transport.

Deinococcus detaillensis sp. nov., isolated from humus soil in Antarctica.

A Gram-staining-positive, non-motile, coccus or short-rod-shaped bacterium, designated H1, was isolated from a humus soil sample in the Detaille Island of Antarctica. The 16S rRNA gene sequence result indicated that strain H1 shared the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence identity with the type strain of Deinococcus alpinitundrae (96.2%).
