Background: Although goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) is associated with reduced morbidity and length of stay (LOS) in the hospital after major surgery, it has not been widely studied in ovarian cancer cytoreductive surgery (CRS). The primary objective of the study was post-operative LOS.

Methods: In this double-blind, randomised controlled trial, ovarian cancer patients undergoing elective CRS were randomised to receive either GDFT or restrictive fluid therapy after pre-randomisation stratification for primary debulking surgery or interval debulking surgery.

Introduction: Gamma pass percentage (GPP) is the predominant metric used for Patient Specific Quality Assurance (PSQA) in radiation therapy. The dimensionality of the measurement geometry in PSQA has evolved from 2D planar to 3D planar, and presently to state-of-the-art 3D volumetric geometry. We aim to critically examine the performance of the three-dimensional gammas vis-à-vis the older gamma metrics of lower dimensionality to determine their mutual fungibility in PSQA, using clinically approved Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT) plans.

Using a well-known galvanic displacement reaction, ∼25-40 μm long silver ribbons grown after mixing ∼50 nm copper particles with AgNO3 solution were observed as a function of Ag(+) concentration and their growth was characterized in real-time and in situ by evanescent wave (EW) microscopy. At low Ag(+) concentration, chain-like structures consisting of both Ag and Cu were observed. When the sequence of mixing these two reactants was reversed, different Ag microstructures (platelets and dendrites) were formed and were also characterized by EW microscopy.
