Article Synopsis
  • Functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) is a common issue in patients with acute decompensated heart failure and significantly affects outcomes such as mortality and hospitalization rates.
  • A study reviewed data from 2,303 patients, finding that over half had at least moderate FMR, which was linked to a higher risk of 1-year all-cause mortality and increased readmissions within 6 months.
  • The findings suggest that better follow-up care and targeted treatments for FMR are needed, especially considering potential differences in severity based on sex.

Acute lower extremity proximal deep venous thrombosis (DVT) requires accurate diagnosis and treatment in order to prevent embolization and other complications. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), a clinician performed, and clinician interpreted bedside ultrasound examination has been increasingly used for DVT evaluation mainly in the urgent and critical care setting, but also in the ambulatory clinics and the medical wards. Studies have demonstrated that POCUS has excellent diagnostic accuracy for acute proximal DVT when performed by well-trained users.
