Lymphedema is a manifestation of lymphatic system disturbance and deranged lymph transport, with resultant swelling, a proliferation of parenchymal and stromal elements, and excess deposition of the extracellular matrix. It may occur in any part of the body, most frequently in the limbs. Staging ranges from inconspicuous lymphatic system derangement to lymphatic elephantiasis.

Methods: Multimethodological approach: (a) quantitative time series and queueing theory were used to predict the demand and estimate intensive care unit beds in different scenarios; (b) qualitative focus group and content analysis were used to explore physicians' attitudes and provide insights into their behaviors and belief-driven healthcare delivery changes.
Results: A total of 33,101 requests for 268 regulated intensive care unit beds in one year resulted in 25% admissions, 55% queue abandonment and 20% deaths.

Introduction: Schwannoma or neurilemmoma is a benign peripheric nerve tumor that usually presents as a slow growing single lesion; it has origin in Schwann cells proliferation. Although it represents a small percentage of the benign tumors of the upper arm, it is the most frequent of neural origin. We present a retrospective study of upper limb schwannomas; our aim is establish the appropriate preoperative approach, to recognise the efficiency of the treatment and the pos-operative follow-up.

Methods: The study uses a hybrid model combining time series and queuing theory to predict the demand and estimate the number of required beds. Four patient flow scenarios were considered according to bed requests, percentage of abandonments and average length of stay in intensive care unit beds.
The protein metabolism and [3H]-uridine uptake of thyroid and adenohypophysis and the kinetics of pituitary TSH rebound (PTR) were studied in goitrous female rats (fed propylthiouracil, PTU: for 7-12 weeks) following single, iv injections of L-thyroxine (T4: 0.8 to 200 mug). Goitrogenesis was associated with reduced protein concentration and enhanced uptake of [3H] uridine in both glands.
