Background: Tertiary hyperparathyroidism adversely affects kidney allografts, with calcium phosphate deposition hypothesized to be an underlying cause. We analyzed allograft biopsies to investigate risk factors for calcium phosphate deposition and understand its impact on allograft function.
Methods: We reviewed patients who underwent kidney transplantation from 2017 to 2019.
Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a life-threatening complication of organ transplantation, commonly diagnosed after patients present with nonspecific constitutional symptoms and/or transplant organ dysfunction. In this article, we report a case of a kidney transplant recipient who was found to have highly elevated circulating donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) levels on routine serum surveillance for allograft rejection, initially without organ dysfunction or evidence of allograft rejection on biopsy. Later, for cause imaging revealed retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy and an allograft hilar mass, which was biopsied to show PTLD/diffuse large B cell lymphoma.

Objective: To compare conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) and drug-eluting bead TACE (DEB-TACE) in terms of efficacy, survival, and adverse effects in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who are not candidates for curative therapy.

Acute thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) developing in association with SARS-CoV-2 infection is a rare but recognized phenomenon in native kidneys. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a dramatic rise in sales of supplements and vitamin C, during which time we observed an apparent increase in the proportion of ingestion-associated oxalate nephropathy.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed secondary oxalate nephropathy and compared pre-pandemic (2018-2019) and pandemic (2020-early 2022) time periods.
Patients with cirrhosis and esophageal varices bleed at a yearly rate of 5%-15%, and, when variceal hemorrhage develops, mortality reaches 20%. Patients are deemed at high risk of bleeding when they present with medium or large-sized varices, when they have red signs on varices of any size and when they are classified as Child-Pugh C and have varices of any size. In order to avoid variceal bleeding and death, individuals with cirrhosis at high risk of bleeding must undergo primary prophylaxis, for which currently recommended strategies are the use of traditional non-selective beta-blockers (NSBBs) (, propranolol or nadolol), carvedilol (a NSBB with additional alpha-adrenergic blocking effect) or endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL).

Methods: Retrospective analysis of TIPS performed from January 2014 to December 2018 in an interventional radiology service. TIPS were performed according to the classic technique, except at the moment of portal branch puncture, when abdominal ultrasound was used to guide it, visualized its path within the parenchyma in real-time.
