BACKGROUND Non-ketotic hyperglycemic hemichorea-hemiballism (HCHB) is a rare complication of diabetes, which is mainly described in case reports. This condition occurs more commonly in older women and is known to be associated with T1 hyperintensity basal ganglia lesions on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The pathophysiology of non-ketotic hyperglycemic HCHB is not well defined, although a combination of regional metabolic failure and ischemia due to hyperglycemia is suspected to occur.

Transkingdom Analysis of the Female Reproductive Tract Reveals Bacteriophages form Communities.

The female reproductive tract (FRT) microbiome plays a vital role in maintaining vaginal health. Viruses are key regulators of other microbial ecosystems, but little is known about how the FRT viruses (virome), particularly bacteriophages that comprise the phageome, impact FRT health and dysbiosis. We hypothesize that bacterial vaginosis (BV) is associated with altered FRT phageome diversity, transkingdom interplay, and bacteriophage discriminate taxa.

Recurrent Fevers in a Triathlete.

Human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA) is a tick-borne illness that typically causes a self-limited febrile illness. We describe herein a healthy triathlete who had recurrent fevers for six weeks as a result of HGA and discuss the impact of this patient's HGA on his metabolic fitness during training over a three month time period. We also review the literature for other cases of Ehrlichia and Anaplasma with prolonged courses.
