Development of a program using STEP (Spring into Healthy Habits) from St. John Community Health, Warren, Michigan, to teach Health Living classes in faith communities and monitor diabetes management in primary care offices yielded positive outcomes.

Defy Diabetes! was a two-year grant to Seton Health, Troy, New York, from the New York State Health Foundation to impact diabetes in the state. Development of a program using the Chronic Care Model to teach Health Living classes in faith communities and monitor diabetes management in primary care offices yielded positive outcomes. This article reports on Healthy Living class outcomes for individuals at risk for or with diabetes and partnership between the Certified Diabetes Educators and faith community nurses.

Evidence-based practice knowledge, use, and factors that influence decisions: results from an Evidence-based Practice Survey of providers in American Indian/Alaska Native communities.

Data from the Evidence-based Treatment Survey were used to compare providers serving families in American Indian and Alaska Native communities to their counterparts in non-American Indian/Alaska Native communities on provider characteristics and factors that influence their decision to use evidence-based practices (N = 467). The findings suggest that providers affiliated with American Indian/Alaska Native communities are similar to their non-AI/AN community-affiliated counterparts in terms of familiarity, knowledge and use of evidence-based practices, and only differ slightly on the factors considered when deciding to use an evidence-based practice with a child and family.

Confirmatory factor analysis of the Evidence-Based Practice Attitude Scale in a geographically diverse sample of community mental health providers.

The Evidence-Based Practice Attitude Scale (EBPAS) assesses mental health service provider attitudes toward adopting evidence-based practices. The original scale development was done in one large California County using paper/pencil surveys. The present study examined the factor structure and internal consistency of the EBPAS in a sample of service providers from 17 states.

Evidence-based treatments in the field: a brief report on provider knowledge, implementation, and practice.

This study examined familiarity, perceived effectiveness, and implementation of evidence-based treatments for children in community settings. A sample of service providers in agencies affiliated with federal programs to improve children's mental health services was identified using a snowball sampling procedure. Forty-four percent of the sample (n = 616) responded to a Web-based survey designed to collect data on evidence-based treatments.

Exfoliated buccal and microdissected lung cell expression of antioxidant enzymes.

Introduction: An exfoliated buccal cell biomarker assay for antioxidant gene transcript levels was used to measure inter-tissue concordance with lung, and inter-subject variability in a lung cancer case-control study.

Methods: First, qualitative RNA-specific RT-PCR was used to compare expression in exfoliated buccal cells with that in laser microdissected lung tissue remote from the tumor from 14 individuals providing both specimens.
