One of the main challenges in the clinical management of dengue is the early identification of cases that could progress to severe forms of the disease. A biomarker that may enable this identification is the presence of genetic polymorphisms in genes associated with immune responses. The objective of this study was to perform a systematic review of the Latin American literature on these genes.

This study therefore sought to identify the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with MDR bacteria in a cohort of patients with ASB scheduled for urological procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • Colombia has a significant population of young people who inject drugs (PWID), but there is a lack of studies on the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in this group.
  • A study conducted in 2014 with 918 PWID from four Colombian cities found that 27.3% were HCV seropositive, with higher rates among those under 25 and individuals engaging in risky injection behaviors.
  • While the overall HCV prevalence is lower than in other countries, the study highlights the importance of addressing specific demographics and risky practices to inform prevention efforts in Colombia.
