Introduction: We present an unusual case of a 28-year-old rheumatologic male patient who developed eosinophilia while he was on etanercept therapy first and then on golimumab.
Case Representation: Although eosinophilia is rarely reported in the literature as a side-effect of various Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha [TNF-alpha] antagonists, it represents a riddle about the future treatments of these patients since the persistence of therapy might lead to the onset of dermatologic or visceral eosinophilic complications in such patients.
Conclusion: Furthermore, the pathogenesis of eosinophilia is still unknown, and all the proposed hypotheses do not explain the eosinophilic proliferation in certain subjects.
Background: In recent years, great research interest has been directed to the diagnostic, therapeutic and marker role of Preferentially expressed Antigen in Melanoma (PRAME) in the setting of various human neoplasms. Although it has been extensively studied mainly in the differential diagnosis setting of melanocytic pigmented lesions, still very few papers have analyzed the usefulness or otherwise of PRAME in the context of other non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC). (2) Methods: In this paper, we report the data of our experience of 21 cases of sebaceous carcinoma (SC) classified in the three WHO grade and collected in the period between January 2005 and 31 October 2022, on which immunostaining for PRAME was performed; Non-parametric Mann−Whitney test for non-normally distributed values was performed.

They account for about 2% of dermatology patient visits, and include disorders with a denied or hidden pathological behavior (factitious disorders) and disorders with a non-denied and non-hidden pathological behavior (compulsive disorders). In turn, factitious skin disorders are subdivided into 2 groups: factitious disorders without an external incentive (considered in a preceding work) and factitious disorders with external incentives.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFEpidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of rare congenital diseases caused by mutations in structural proteins of the dermal/epidermal junction that are characterized by extreme epithelial fragility, which determines the formation of bullae and erosions either spontaneously or after local mechanical traumas. In EB patients, skin fragility leads to many possible complications and comorbidities. One of the most feared complications is the development of cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) that particularly in the dystrophic recessive EB subtype can be extremely aggressive and often metastatic.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a highly invalidating genodermatosis characterized by skin and mucosa fragility and blister-formation caused by mutations of genes encoding components of the cutaneous basement membrane zone. Nutritional impairment is one of the main complications of all forms of EB, having a huge impact on growth, pubertal development, wound healing, resistance to infections and quality of life.
Methods: In our study we have retrospectively evaluated 17 children with EB to define whether nutritional impairment in those patients is already present in the neonatal period.
Melasma is a hyperpigmentary disorder with photoaging features, whose manifestations appear on specific face areas, rich in sebaceous glands (SGs). To explore the SGs possible contribution to the onset, the expression of pro-melanogenic and inflammatory factors from the SZ95 SG cell line exposed to single or repetitive ultraviolet (UVA) radiation was evaluated. UVA up-modulated the long-lasting production of α-MSH, EDN1, b-FGF, SCF, inflammatory cytokines and mediators.

We recently demonstrated a reduction in immune cell peritumoral infiltration in RDEB patients with cSCC, together with a reduction in CD3+, CD4+, CD68+ and CD20 lymphocytes as compared to primary and secondary cSCC in patients without RDEB. Recently, new molecules, such as high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), T cell immunoglobulin, mucin domain 3 (TIM-3) and Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), have been shown to play a role in antitumoral immunity.

While melanoma is rare in children, it has greater incidence in adolescents and young adults (AYA), but literature offers only few studies specifically focused on AYA melanoma. The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics, surgical treatment, and prognosis of a cohort of AYA melanoma in order to contribute to the investigation of this malignancy and provide better patient care.

Generally, they are well-tolerated but skin toxicity is common (45-100% of patients) and may adversely affect quality of life. Pathogenesis of cutaneous side effects is usually linked to EGFR expression in normal cells of the epidermis and not immune-related.

This review discusses the emerging role of topical beta-blockers in the treatment of infantile hemangioma, but also pyogenic granuloma, Kaposi sarcoma, wounds and nail paronychia. Data in literature demonstrate that topical beta-blockers are a safe and valid therapeutic option in numerous cutaneous diseases.

Disease severity and chronicity, patient disfigurement, and time and costs required for care impose a major burden on quality of life. This multicentre cross-sectional study investigated the impact of ARCI on quality of life of patients and families, using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), the Children DLQI (CDLQI) and Family Burden of Ichthyosis (FBI) questionnaires.

This study aimed to investigate the characteristics, treatment strategies, and prognostic factors of MUP patients, in order to shed some light on the clinical behavior of this malignancy.
Methods: All the consecutive patients with a diagnosis of MUP referring to our institutions between 1985 and 2018 were considered in this retrospective cohort study.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, many scheduled medical and surgical activities have been suspended. This interruption to the healthcare system can negatively affect the diagnosis and management of melanoma. Neglecting melanoma throughout the outbreak may be associated with increased rates of mortality, morbidity, and healthcare expenses.

Retrospective, multicenter analysis over a 52-week period is discussed in this study. Efficacy was determined by the percentage of patients achieving Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI 75) and PASI 90 at weeks 16, 24, and 52 and the response in biologic-naïve versus non-naïve patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtopic dermatitis (AD) prevalence is rising worldwide. Literature data suggest the incidence of AD in developing countries is gradually getting close to that of developed ones, in which AD affects 20% of the paediatric population. Such an increment, associated with significant variations in prevalence among the various countries, underlines the importance of environmental factors in the disease onset.
