Gastrointestinal and hepatic complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Recognition and management of gastrointestinal and hepatic complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has gained increasing importance as indications and techniques of transplantation have expanded in the last few years. The transplant recipient is at risk for several complications including conditioning chemotherapy related toxicities, infections, bleeding, sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) as well as other long-term problems. The severity and the incidence of many complications have improved in the past several years as the intensity of conditioning regimens has diminished and better supportive care and GVHD prevention strategies have been implemented.

Placental Cryptococcus neoformans infection without neonatal disease: case report and review of the literature.

We report placental cryptococcosis in a woman with multidrug resistant human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. She received antifungal therapy for cryptococcal meningitis prior to delivery. Cesarean section was performed with delivery of a single full-term male infant.

Carcinosarcoma of the ureter: report of a case with unusual histology and review of the literature.

Carcinosarcomas of the ureter are rare biphasic neoplasms, with distinct malignant epithelial and mesenchymal components. To the authors' knowledge there have been only 12 cases reported in the literature. Primary cartilaginous tumors of the ureter are also rare tumors.
