Objective:  Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is a cause of massive obstetric hemorrhage and maternal mortality. The application of family-centered delivery techniques (FCDTs) during surgery to treat this disease is infrequent. We evaluate the implementation of FCDTs during PAS surgeries.

Smart pooling: AI-powered COVID-19 informative group testing.

Massive molecular testing for COVID-19 has been pointed out as fundamental to moderate the spread of the pandemic. Pooling methods can enhance testing efficiency, but they are viable only at low incidences of the disease. We propose Smart Pooling, a machine learning method that uses clinical and sociodemographic data from patients to increase the efficiency of informed Dorfman testing for COVID-19 by arranging samples into all-negative pools.

Intimate partner violence: A loop of abuse, depression and victimization.

Intimate partner violence has been recognized as a serious public health issue. Exposure to violence contributes to the genesis of, and exacerbates, mental health conditions, and existing mental health problems increase vulnerability to partner violence, a loop that imprisons victims and perpetuates the abuse. A recently described phenomenon is when male violence against females occurs within intimate relationships during youth, and it is termed adolescent or teen dating violence.

Food allergy: Children's symptom levels are associated with mothers' psycho-socio-economic variables.

Background: Allergies affect children's health as well as their quality of life, stress levels, and family budget. The available literature suggests that family, social and psychological factors are affected by allergic pathologies such as rhinitis, asthma and atopic dermatitis. However, few studies have focused on quantifying such association in child food allergy.

Modelling coffee leaf rust risk in Colombia with climate reanalysis data.

Many fungal plant diseases are strongly controlled by weather, and global climate change is thus likely to have affected fungal pathogen distributions and impacts. Modelling the response of plant diseases to climate change is hampered by the difficulty of estimating pathogen-relevant microclimatic variables from standard meteorological data. The availability of increasingly sophisticated high-resolution climate reanalyses may help overcome this challenge.

19q13.32 microdeletion syndrome: three new cases.

A previous report described a unique phenotype associated with an apparently de novo 732 kb 19q13.32 microdeletion, consisting of intellectual disability, facial asymmetry, ptosis, oculomotor abnormalities, orofacial clefts, cardiac defects, scoliosis and chronic constipation. We report three unrelated patients with developmental delay and dysmorphic features, who were all found to have interstitial 19q13.

Middle ear promontory osteoma.

Osteomas are benign lesions of the lamellar bone that within the temporal region are common in the external ear canal. Osteomas of the middle ear are extremely rare and until now there are only 14 reported cases. They usually present with conductive hearing loss while others are asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally.

Development of the scale of psychosocial factors in food allergy (SPS-FA).

Background: Food allergy (FA) is a growing condition among children and it's psychological impact over the patients and their caregivers is well known, establishing a vicious circle that perpetuates stress levels. However, psychosocial factors are not commonly included in allergy treatments. Based on the lack of evidence of records about a scale that indicates the level of interaction between biopsychosocial factors in the patient-caregivers dyad for FA, the present research aims to develop a scale with these characteristics as a helpful tool to achieve a more comprehensive system of health care.

Increased circulating advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) in acute trauma patients.

Background: Circulating levels of pro-inflammatory advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are increased in diabetes and other conditions characterized by chronically elevated oxidant stress (OS). OS also increases after acute trauma and is implicated in the development of complications such as multiple organ failure. Herein, we assess the effect of acute OS on circulating levels of AGEs in a cohort of acute trauma victims.
