Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major ocular complication of diabetes mellitus, leading to visual impairment. Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) injury is a key component of the outer blood retinal barrier, and its damage is an important indicator of DR. Receptor for activated C kinase 1 (RACK1) activates protein kinase C-ε (PKC-ε) to promote the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in RPE cells, leading to apoptosis.

Virilizing ovarian tumors are rare but a clinically important diagnosis in a patient presenting with hyperandrogenism. Workup of hyperandrogenism is challenging with a broad range of differentials, including adrenal and ovarian pathology, tumoral or nontumoral in nature. Baseline follicular-phase 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17OHP) measurement is part of the investigation algorithm, and elevated levels are often associated with nonclassic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (NCCAH), which can have its first presentation in adolescence or adulthood.

Background: As a component of chromatin remodeling complex, chromatin accessibility complex subunit 1 (CHRAC1) is critical in transcription and DNA replication. However, the significance of CHRAC1 in cancer progression has not been investigated extensively. This research aimed to determine the function of CHRAC1 in breast and cervical cancer and elucidate the molecular mechanism.

Background: Emotional eating (EE) may be defined as a tendency to eat in response to negative emotions and energy-dense and palatable foods, and is common amongst adults with overweight or obesity. There is limited evidence regarding the effectiveness of interventions that address EE.

Objectives: To synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of EE interventions for weight loss and EE in adults living with overweight or obesity.

Aims: Despite potential enzyme- and transporter-mediated drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between dronedarone and rivaroxaban in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic data remain limited to guide clinical practice. We aimed to develop, verify and validate a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model of dronedarone and its major metabolite, N-desbutyldronedarone (NDBD), to prospectively interrogate this clinically relevant DDI in healthy and mild renal impairment populations.

Methods: The middle-out development of our PBPK model combined literature-derived or in-house in vitro data, predicted in silico data and in vivo clinical data.

Objective: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) causes visual damage and blindness globally. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in functional connectivity (FC) in AMD patients using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI).

Subjects And Methods: A total of 23 patients (12 male, 11 female) with AMD were enrolled to the AMD patients group (AMDs), and 17 healthy age-, sex-, and education-matched controls (9 male, 8 female) to the healthy controls group (HCs).

Finding novel anti-diabetic compounds with effective suppression activities against hepatic glucagon response is urgently required for the development of new drugs against diabetes. Fungi are well known for their ability to produce new bioactive secondary metabolites. As part of our ongoing research, five new indole-terpenoids (-), named encindolenes D-H, were isolated from the fungus sp.

Objective: The purpose of this project is to make sequential and indepth observation of the variations of retinal microvascular, microstructure, and inflammatory mediators at the early stage of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus (DM) rats.

Methods: DM was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of 60 mg/kg body weight streptozotocin (STZ). The fluorescein fundus angiography, hematoxylin and eosin staining, periodic acid-Schiff staining, fluorescence imaging techniques, quantitative real-time PCR, and vascular endothelial growth factor- (VEGF-) A ELISA were performed on the 8 day, at the 4 week, 6 week, 8 week, and 10 week after DM induction, respectively.

Diabetic optic neuropathy (DON) is a diverse complication of diabetes and its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. The purpose of this study was to explore dynamic cerebral activity changes in DON patients using dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (dALFF). In total, 22 DON patients and 22 healthy controls were enrolled.

Objective: To explore the changes in gray matter volume (GMV) and white matter volume (WMV) in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) patients using voxel-based morphometry (VBM).

Participants And Methods: In total, 15 patients (10 males, 5 females) with PDR were enrolled to the patient group and 15 healthy controls (10 males, 5 females) to the control group, matched for age, sex, handedness, and education status. All individuals underwent voxel-based morphometry scans.

The aim of this study was to compare as to which treatment achieves better outcomes in the management of giant retinal tears (GRTs) - pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) alone or combined with scleral buckle (SB)? The Web of Science, PubMed, and Cochrane Library databases were searched from January 1, 1950 to October 1, 2020. Pooled odds ratios (ORs), 95% confidence intervals (CIs), heterogeneity, and publication bias were determined with Review Manager software. PPV combined with SB significantly decreased the risk of recurrent retinal detachment (RRD, OR = 0.

The liquid electrolytes in lithium-air (oxygen) batteries are prone to volatilize, leak, flame, and cause uneven deposition of lithium during cycling, which makes the batteries to face serious problems in terms of safety and cycling stability. A novel Janus quasi-solid composite polymer electrolyte was fabricated by perfluorosulfonic acid (Nafion) membranes with tunable thickness and poly(vinylidene fluoride)-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP). The Nafion membranes not only guarantee the mechanical strength of the composites but also effectively prevent the migration of certain anions and macromolecules.

The coil is the most important component in electromagnetic forming. Two important questions in electromagnetic forming are how to obtain the desired magnetic force distribution on the sheet and increase the service life of the coil. A uniform pressure coil is widely used in sheet embossing, bulging, and welding.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of intravitreal injection of ranibizumab on retinal ganglion cells and microvessels at the early stage of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus (DM). DM was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of 60 mg/kg body weight streptozotocin. A total of 80 diabetic rats were randomly assigned to four treatment groups (n=20 in each group) and were treated with an oculus dexter intravitreal injection of ranibizumab.

Visualization of macrophages in live animals has been of great interest for a better understanding of inflammation. We developed a near infrared (NIR) probe that can selectively detect macrophages and visualize inflammation in vivo using the IVIS spectrum, Fluorescence Molecular Tomography (FMT) and Multi-Spectral Optoacoustic Tomography (MSOT).

In this paper, the origins of enantioselectivity in asymmetric ketone hydrogenation catalyzed by RuH(2)(binap)(cydn) (cydn = trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane) were discussed. Fifteen substrates involving aromatic, heteroaromatic, olefinic and dialkyl prochiral ketones were used to probe the catalytic mechanism and find an effective way to predict the chirality of the products. The calculated results demonstrate that the hydrogen transfer (HT) step from the Ru complex to the ketone substrate is the chirality-determining step in the H(2)-hydrogenation of ketones.
