We investigated the association of the rs7903146 SNP in this gene with clinical profile of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients. HSPs (heat-shock proteins) are molecular chaperones synthesized under stress conditions, and are involved in renal cell survival and matrix remodelling in acute and chronic renal diseases. In the present study, we investigated whether the HSP70 gene polymorphisms affect susceptibility to DN (diabetic nephropathy) in patients with T2DM (Type 2 diabetes mellitus). Background: One of the uncertainties in the prescription of dialysis dose, measured as Kt/V for urea (Kt/Vu), is the volume of urea distribution (V). The aim of our study was to compare two different approaches to estimating V and Kt/V, respectively, and to compare the predicted (prescribed) dose with the actually delivered dose, measured by urea kinetics.

Material/methods: V was estimated using anthropometric measures with the Watson formula (VWatson), and also by multi-frequency bioimpedance analysis (VBIS).

The bioimpedance technique is postulated as not expensive and non-invasive method for measurement of body water compartments in humans. However, the accuracy of the whole body bioimpedance technique has been questioned by several authors because of nonhomogenic nature of the human body. Malnutrition is commonly reported in haemodialysis patients (HD pts) and is multifactorial in origin. Previous studies indicated a possible relationship between plasma levels of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA): isoleucine, leucine, valine and nutritional status of HD pts. The BCAA have important influence on metabolism of energy in skeletal muscles, in addition the leucine makes easy the synthesis of protein.
