Type IV collagen and CD44v6 expression in benign, malignant primary and metastatic ovarian tumors: correlation with Ki-67 and p53 immunoreactivity.

Objective: Loss of basement membrane (BM) components, such as type IV collagen has been demonstrated in ovarian cancer, but the associations with other molecules like CD44v6, involved in metastatic process of ovarian carcinoma, have not been fully analyzed. This study investigates the expression of type IV collagen, CD44v6 molecule in correlation with p53 and Ki-67 presence in primary and metastatic lesion of ovarian carcinoma to define their role in metastases of ovarian carcinoma.

Methods: The expression of type IV collagen, CD44v6, p53, and Ki-67 was evaluated on frozen tissue sections from primary ovarian tumors (malignant n = 37, benign n = 16), metastatic lesions (n = 29) and ascitic fluid cells (n = 28).

Expression of high molecular weight cysteine proteinase inhibitor in ovarian cancer tissues: regulation of cathepsin B expression by placental CPI.

Mouse polyclonal antibodies against placental cysteine proteinase inhibitor (CPI) react with the placental 67 kDa CPI on Western blots, and CPI present in ovarian cancer homogenate and serum was shown by double immunodiffusion to react with the same antiserum. By immunohistochemical staining, positive expression of high molecular weight CPI was observed on the tumour cell surface in serous and endometrioid ovarian carcinomas with metastasis. Normal endometrioid tissue was not stained with anti-placental CPI antibodies.

[Estimation of DNA methylation level in endometrial cancer tissues].

Objectives: A level of DNA methylation plays an important role in regulation of cellular gene's expression. Estimation of DNA methylation level in endometrial neoplastic tissues compared to normal endometrial samples was the aim of this study.

Design: It was to be shown, that changes in methylation rate in promotory regions could lead to carcinogenesis in particular cell.

[Estimation of DNA methylation level in nonendometrial uterus malignancies].

Objectives: Rebuilding of genome structure leads to many pathological states including neoplastic malignancies. Rebuilding often occurs as a process caused by disturbances in gene silencing mechanism. DNA methylation pattern is one of the most important mechanisms connected to gene's silencing.

[Gastric cancer in pregnancy--a case report].

Authors describe a case of gastric carcinoma diagnosed during 27th week of pregnancy in 27-year-old woman with mild gastrointestinal symptoms in second and third trimester accompanied with severe anemia. Gastrofiberoscopy with a biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of diffused gastric adenocarcinoma. Sudden symptoms of premature labour in 33-rd week of pregnancy finished with a premature labor.

[Choriocarcinoma with atypical clinical course. Case report].

Authors describe a case of choriocarcinoma with an atypical clinical course in 28-year old woman nine months after a normal pregnancy and labour. Diagnosis of the disease was very hard because endometrial biopsy did not show any suspected cells and two performed pregnancy tests were not positive. Diagnosis was confirmed after a hysterectomy.

[Evaluation of expression and correlation between P53, BCL-2 and BAX proteins in ovarian neoplasms].

Objectives: Interactions between BCL-2 and other proteins regulating programmed cells death in ovarian carcinomas are poorly understood.

Design: The evaluation of expression of P53, BCL-2 and BAX proteins in ovarian carcinomas. The associations between oncoproteins studied and the histological structure, grade of differentiation and stage of disease were also analysed.
