Detergents and disinfectants for dairy industry must meet a variety of characteristics, including low toxicity, high antibacterial activity, and excellent rinsing of pollutants from working surfaces. This work presents an innovative detergent-disinfectant agent based on whey mineralizate and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), which allows reducing production costs and ensuring high cleanliness of treated surfaces compared to analogues. For this purpose, a method for obtaining sols of Ag NPs stabilized with didecyldimethylammonium bromide (Ag NPs-DDAB) was developed and optimized using neural network algorithms.

This study discovered and examined novel triple chelate complexes involving iron, ascorbic acid, and essential amino acids (AsA-Fe-AmA triple chelate complexes) for the first time. The mechanism of complex formation was studied using FTIR spectroscopy and quantum chemical modeling. The produced complexes were shown to be suitable for fortifying food items with a pH of 3-7 that have not been exposed to heat treatment at temperatures over 75 °C for more than 15 min.

This study aimed to synthesize, characterize, and evaluate the effect of cocamidopropyl betaine-stabilized MnO nanoparticles (NPs) on the germination and development of pea seedlings. The synthesized NPs manifested as aggregates ranging from 50-600 nm, comprising spherical particles sized between 19 to 50 nm. These particles exhibited partial crystallization, indicated by peaks at 2θ = 25.

Article Synopsis
  • Entomotherapy is the medicinal use of insects, with a long history and over 2100 edible species, but its potential as an alternative to traditional medicine is still underexplored.
  • The review identifies 235 insect species used for healing, particularly focusing on the Hymenoptera, and their properties, such as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, mainly targeting digestive and skin issues.
  • Challenges like regulatory issues, consumer acceptance, and overexploitation of insect populations must be addressed for entomotherapy to evolve into a sustainable and affordable treatment option in the future.

Microplastics from food packaging material have risen in number and dispersion in the aquatic system, the terrestrial environment, and the atmosphere in recent decades. Microplastics are of particular concern due to their long-term durability in the environment, their great potential for releasing plastic monomers and additives/chemicals, and their vector-capacity for adsorbing or collecting other pollutants. Consumption of foods containing migrating monomers can lead to accumulation in the body and the build-up of monomers in the body can trigger cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • - This article discusses the synthesis of selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs) stabilized by a quaternary ammonium compound through a chemical reduction process in water, optimizing the synthesis method via multifactorial experiments.
  • - The size and stability of the Se NPs were analyzed using techniques like dynamic light scattering, where negatively charged particles showed a bimodal size distribution (45 nm and 1-10 nm) while positively charged particles had a diameter of about 70 nm.
  • - The study also examined how pH levels and ionic strength affected the stability of Se NPs, finding that stable aggregates existed between pH 2 and 6 but degraded in alkaline conditions, with ionic interactions also influencing nanoparticle size based on charge.

In this work, we obtained silver nanoparticles stabilized with polyvinylpyrrolidone, ranging in size from 70 to 110 nm, which exhibits good crystallinity and anisotropic structure. For the first time, we studied the influence of the molar ratio of silver between silver and peroxide on the oxidation process of the nanoparticles and determined the regularities of this process by analyzing changes in absorption spectra. Our results showed that at molar ratios of Ag:HO = 1:1 and 1:5, dependences of changes in the intensity, position and half-width of the absorption band of the plasmon resonance are rectilinear.
