Purpose: To determine whether tranexamic acid (TXA) is safe to administer preoperatively in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy by comparing the venous thromboembolic rate and complication rate between patients who did and did not receive TXA preoperatively.
Methods: This was a multicenter consecutive-cohort series of patients who underwent arthroscopic hip surgery between 2014 and 2021. The 2 cohorts comprised patients who did and did not receive TXA preoperatively (single dose of 1-2 g), after a practice change.
Objectives: To compare patient-reported outcomes (PROs), range of motion (ROM), and complication rates for proximal humerus fractures managed nonoperatively or with open reduction internal fixation (ORIF).
Design: Retrospective cohort.
Setting: Academic level 1 trauma center.
Objective: To evaluate early outcomes (within 1 year) for geriatric proximal humerus fractures managed nonoperatively or with reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA).
Design: Retrospective cohort.
Setting: Academic level 1 trauma center, level 2 trauma/geriatric fracture center.
Background: This study compares patient-reported outcomes and range of motion (ROM) between adults with an AO Foundation/Orthopaedic Trauma Association type C proximal humerus fracture managed nonoperatively, with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), and with reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA).
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of patients >60 years of age treated with nonoperative management, ORIF, or RSA for AO Foundation/Orthopaedic Trauma Association type 11C proximal humerus fractures from 2015 to 2018. Visual analog scale pain scores, Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) scores, ROM values, and complication and reoperation rates were compared using analysis of variance for continuous variables and chi square analysis for categorical variables.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the setting of previous hip fusion is rare with a paucity of evidence in the orthopaedic literature. Traditionally, TKA is performed supine, with the aid of knee-positioning devices allowing for hip flexion and range of motion of the knee to facilitate ease of surgical intervention. However, TKA using traditional positioning would not be possible in the presence of ipsilateral hip arthrodesis preventing hip motion.

Methods: A retrospective review of 576 consecutive wrist arthroscopies was performed over a 10-year period at a single ambulatory surgery center. The chart of each included patient was reviewed for postoperative infections following the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance criteria for diagnosis.
To our knowledge, no study has evaluated Sideline Concussion Assessment Tool -3rd Edition (SCAT3) scores during competition in athletes who have not had a head injury. The purpose of our pilot study was to compare SCAT3 scores in non-injured (NI), injured (but not head injured) (I), and head injured (HI) youth soccer players during competition and to establish preliminary baseline data for non-head injured athletes in a competitive setting. The HI group demonstrated significantly more symptoms (M = 9.
